왕피천 봇도랑길은 과거 농업용수를 공급하기 위해 사용되던 왕피천 유역의 관개수로를 활용해, 울진군이 2013년에 6억 8천만원을 투자해 만든 숲길로, 근남면 구산리 성산지에서 물병골까지 약 2km 구간에 조성되었다.

이 숲길은 평지로 되어 있어 누구나 쉽게 걸을 수 있으며, 왕피천의 아름다운 자연경관과 다양한 동식물을 감상할 수 있어 탐방객들이 꾸준히 증가하는 추세다.

그러나 태풍과 폭우로 인해 숲길에 낙석이 발생하고, 길이 유실되거나 시설물이 파손되는 등의 문제가 발생했다. 이에 울진군은 2024년에 3억 5천만원을 투자해 파손된 시설물 수리와 안전시설 보강을 완료했다.

올해에는 물병골에서 끝나는 숲길을 근남면 구산리 굴구지마을 입구까지 연장할 예정이다. 이 구간은 하천의 암석 지형으로 인해 접근이 어려웠으나, 데크로드를 설치하여 기존 숲길과 연결할 계획이다. 또한, 향후에는 굴구지마을을 지나 왕피천 용소 방향으로 숲길을 확장해 장거리 숲길도 개발하여 탐방객들이 다양한 경로로 숲길을 이용할 수 있도록 할 예정이다.
