강영석 상주시장은 “현재의 갈등은 단순한 정책적 이견을 넘어 과도한 대립으로 확대되고 있다”며 “이러한 대립이 시의원을 주민소환의 대상으로 삼는 것은 바람직하지 않다”는 입장을 밝혔다.

그는 “주민소환을 추진하는 양측 모두 상주를 사랑하는 마음에서 비롯된 것이겠지만, 한 발 물러서서 절대 다수의 시민들과 외부에서 바라보는 상주의 모습을 고려해 주시길 바란다”고 강조했다.
