이날 개관식에는 홍준표 대구광역시장을 비롯해 이만규 대구광역시의회 의장, 강은희 대구광역시 교육감, 혁신도시 이전 공공기관장과 지역 주민 등 200여 명이 참석해 복합문화센터의 개관을 축하했다.

복합문화센터는 1층에 수영장, 카페, 휴게공간, 2층에는 문화강좌실과 GX룸, 3층에는 600평 규모의 대형 공공도서관을 갖춘 복합문화시설로, 대구 공공시설 중 최초로 연중무휴로 운영된다.

홍준표 대구광역시장은 기념사에서 “진정한 국가균형발전을 위해서는 민간기업과 인재들이 지방으로 몰려들고, 지방자치단체는 그들이 정주할 수 있는 살기 좋은 여건을 갖추는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다”고 강조했다. 

이어 “취임 후 정주 여건 개선을 위해 국내 최대 규모의 대학한방병원 이전, 수요응답형 버스(DRT) 도입, 안심하이패스IC 착공, 도시철도 한의대병원역 신설 등 인프라 확충에 노력해 왔다”며, “오늘 개관한 복합문화센터에 인근 제2실내빙상장과 제2수목원이 완공되면 혁신도시는 대구의 새로운 명소로 급부상할 것이다”라고 기대감을 표명했다.

이번 개관식에서는 스트레스 측정, 자세 교정을 위한 기기와 지압침대 등 다양한 건강 진단 기기를 비치하고 전문 인력을 배치해 주민들의 건강 상담도 진행하는 등 다양한 이벤트가 열렸다. 이와 함께 방문객들은 높은 호응을 보였다.
