이번 동결 대상은 공사에서 공급·관리하는 공공임대주택(영구임대, 매입임대, 국민임대, 행복주택 등)과 임대상가에 거주 중인 3200여 세대로, 갱신 및 신규 계약을 앞둔 세대가 포함된다. 

공사에서는 물가 상승을 고려해 임대료를 매년 최대 5%까지 인상할 수 있지만, 대구도시개발공사는 입주민들의 부담을 덜어주기 위해 2016년부터 9년간 임대보증금과 임대료를 동결해왔다.

정명섭 대구도시개발공사 사장은 "임대주택 입주민들의 주거비 부담을 완화하기 위해 지속적으로 노력할 것이며, 어려운 시기에도 안정적인 생활이 가능하도록 공기업으로서 사회적 책임을 다할 것"이라고 말했다.

또한, 대구도시개발공사는 취약계층의 주거환경 개선과 에너지 효율을 높이기 위해 노후공공임대주택 리모델링사업을 진행 중이다. 2021년부터 4년간 1,646세대에 139억원을 투입하며, 2025년에는 300세대에 82억원을 추가로 투입할 계획이다.
