영해 3·18 만세운동은 1919년 3월 18일(음력 2월 17일), 영해면 장날을 기점으로 축산, 창수, 병곡 지역의 민중들이 합류해 독립을 외친 경북지역 최대의 독립 만세운동이다.
이번 행사에는 영해 3·18 독립만세운동 기념사업회(회장 한규상)의 주관으로 출정식, 만세 대행진, 추념식이 순차적으로 진행되었으며, 특히 지역의 유치원생, 중고등학생, 노인회 회원 등 다양한 세대가 함께 만세운동의 정신을 기리기 위해 참여해 더욱 뜻깊은 자리가 되었다.
김광열 영덕군수는 행사에서 “영해 3·18 만세운동은 시대와 세대를 초월한 소중한 역사·문화 유산이자, 자랑스러운 애국과 호국 정신의 상징”이라며, “만세운동의 숭고한 정신을 널리 알리고 계승할 수 있도록 모든 노력을 기울여 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

The Yeonghae March 18 Independence Movement was the largest independence movement in the Gyeongbuk region, starting on March 18, 1919 (February 17 in the lunar calendar), when the people of Chuksan, Changsu, and Byeonggok regions joined together to call for independence, starting with the Yeonghae-myeon market day.
This event was hosted by the Yeonghae March 18 Independence Movement Commemoration Association (Chairman Han Gyu-sang), and consisted of a departure ceremony, a parade, and a memorial ceremony in sequence. It was especially meaningful because various generations, including local kindergarten students, middle and high school students, and senior citizens’ association members, participated to commemorate the spirit of the independence movement.
