지난해 7월부터 시작된 ‘현금 없는 시내버스’ 시범운행은 3차에 걸쳐 진행되었으며, 1차 5개 노선 98대, 2차 40개 노선 583대, 3차 77개 노선 1,034대 등 총 127개 노선에서 시범 운행을 거쳤다. 그 결과, 대구시 전체 시내버스의 현금 승차 비율은 2023년 2.2%에서 2025년 2월 말 기준 0.5%로 크게 감소했으며, 충분한 홍보와 현장 운수 종사자의 친절한 응대로 특별한 민원은 발생하지 않았다.

‘현금 없는 시내버스’는 현물 선불·후불 교통카드뿐만 아니라 모바일 교통카드도 이용할 수 있으며, 교통카드를 소지하지 않은 승객은 버스 정류장에 부착된 QR코드를 통해 모바일 교통카드를 발급받거나, 버스에 비치된 요금납부안내서를 통해 추후 계좌이체로 요금을 지불할 수 있다.

특히, 대구시는 전국 최초로 도입한 ‘어르신 통합무임 교통카드’를 통해 고령층에서도 큰 불편 없이 ‘현금 없는 시내버스’를 이용할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다.

허준석 대구광역시 교통국장은 “‘현금 없는 시내버스’ 전면 시행 이후에도 운영 현황과 불편 사항에 대해 지속적으로 모니터링을 실시하여, 시민들에게 더 편리하고 효율적인 대중교통 서비스를 제공할 것”이라고 말했다.
