【브레이크뉴스 대구 】이성현 기자=중도층을 잡고 대선을 치르기 위해서는 반드시 경선 흥행에 성공해야하는 국민의힘이 당내 중도층 흡수 주자인 오세훈, 유승민 전 의워의 경선 불출마로 흥행에 빨간불이 켜졌다.

국민의힘은 김문수, 한동수, 홍준표, 나경원 등 10여명이 넘는 인사들이 대선 출마 선언을 했거나 계획 중에 있지만, 이들 대부분이 다음 지방선거를 위한 알박기 등 다른 선거를 염두해 두고 출마한 이른바 보수중에서도 오른쪽에 치우쳐 있는 성향의 인사가 대부분이다. 그러다보니 당장 중도층 표심 잡기 전략이 사실상 불가능해지는 것 아니냐는 분석이 쏟아지고 있다.

이런 가운데 이미 출마를 선언한 후보자들 사이에서도 경선 흥행 실패에 대한 우려와 함께 출마를 포기한 두 사람에 대한 엇갈린 반응을 나타내고 있다.

입장은 크게 탄핵 찬성쪽과 반대 쪽으로 갈렸다. 탄핵 찬성측 인사들은 유승민 전 의원의 결정을 존중하는 태도를 보였다. 한동훈 전 대표는 자신의 페이스북에 "유 전 의원의 큰 결단을 깊이 존중한다“며 "당 쇄신과 정치개혁이라는 호랑이를 잡기 위해 호랑이굴에 남아 싸우겠다"는 입장을 밝혔다. 그러면서 ”두 분(오새훈, 유승민)의 말씀대로 혁신과 확장을 무기 삼아 중도층을 설득해 이재명 대표와 민주당을 꼭 이기겠다. 제가 앞장서서 구태와 퇴행의 이전투구가 아니라 변화와 혁신의 경연장으로 만들어 보이겠다"고 거듭 강조했다.

안철수 의원도 본인의 페이스북에 "유 전 의원님의 깊은 고민에 공감한다. 대통령이 탄핵당한 엄중한 상황 속에서도 성찰과 반성은커녕 우리끼리의 기득권에만 안주하는 모습은 국민께 더 큰 실망을 안길 뿐"이라며 “헌정질서를 부정하며 탄핵에 반대했던 모습으로는 결코 국민의 신뢰를 얻을 수도, 정권 재창출을 하기도 힘들다. 무너진 보수를 다시 세우고 자유 대한민국을 반드시 지켜내야 한다"고 주장했다.

반면 '탄핵반대를 주장했던 출마자들은 대체적으로 비판의 목소리가 나왔다. 특히, 유승민 의원에 대하여는 경선 룰을 핑계로 또다시 당을 저격하고 있다고 사실상 비판의 목소리를 냈다.

대표적으로 나경원 의원은 "경선 규칙을 사기라고 말하고 문제 삼아 출마하지 않겠다는 건 굉장히 안타까운 일"이라고 우회해 유 전 의원을 비판했다.

이철우 경북도지사도 지난 일요일 ”(유 전 의원의) 경선 불참 아쉽다“ 면서 ”국민의힘 경선은 우리 당 후보를 뽑는 것인데, 저는 오히려 당심 반영이 부족해서 안타깝다“고 덧붙였다. 당심 반영이 부족하다는 지적은 유 전 의원을 간접적으로 저격한 발언으로 이는 유 전 의원을 지지하지 않는 층의 여론을 의식한 메시지라는 분석이다.

유정복 의원은 “유 전 의원이 당내 경선 불참을 선언하고 당의 혁신을 촉구한 그 절절한 심정에 대해 공감한다"는 입장을 내놨다.

이런 가운데 유승민 전 의원이 국민의힘 경선은 불참하되, 무소속이나 제 3지대를 통한 대선 출마에 대하여는 결심을 했다는 보도들이 나오면서 진위 여부에 관심이 모아지고 있다. 이에 대하여 유 전 의원의 한 측근은 “나로서는 전혀 아는 바가 없는 내용이다. 차라리 경선에 참여하면 했지, 이런 결정을 했겠나 싶다. 결정을 했다면 어떻게든 연락이 왔을 것이라 생각하지만 논의된 바도, 연락 온 바도 없다”고 말했다.

Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo also stated on his Facebook page, “I sympathize with Rep. Yoo’s deep concerns. In the midst of the serious situation where the president has been impeached, instead of reflecting and introspecting, we are only content with our vested interests, which will only cause greater disappointment to the people.” He argued, “If we continue to deny the constitutional order and oppose the impeachment, we will never be able to gain the people’s trust or re-establish the government. We must rebuild the collapsed conservatives and protect the free Republic of Korea.”

On the other hand, the candidates who opposed impeachment generally criticized him. In particular, they criticized Rep. Yoo Seung-min, saying that he was once again attacking the party using the primary rules as an excuse.

Meanwhile, reports are coming out that former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min has decided not to participate in the People Power Party primary, but to run for president as an independent or through a third party, drawing attention to the truth of the matter.
