이철우 경상북도지사가 암 투병 이후 약 1개월 만에 공식 일정에 복귀해 산불 피해지역 재창조를 강력히 주문했다. 7월 10일 경북도청 화백당에서 열린 ‘산불피해 재창조 본부회의’에서다.

이 도지사는 “산불 피해는 단순 복구로 끝날 문제가 아니다”라며 “도청만의 힘으로는 부족하므로 민간기업과 협력해 근본적인 개발 방식으로 접근해야 한다”고 강조했다. 특히 영덕군 노물리와 석리 일대에 개발 의지를 가진 민간기업이 있어, 이들과 적극 협력해 사업을 추진하겠다고 밝혔다.

또한 자신의 건강 상태에 대해서도 “암세포가 1개월 만에 60% 사라졌다”며 “몸이 아파도 도정을 멈출 수 없다. 산불 피해 지역을 제대로 재창조하면 내 건강도 회복될 것”이라며 강한 의지를 내비쳤다.

회의에서는 산불 피해를 입은 안동, 의성, 영덕, 영양, 청송 등 5개 시군을 중심으로 피해 복구 방향이 논의됐다. 단순한 주거 복구를 넘어 ‘컴팩트시티’ 개념을 도입해 도시 기능을 집중시키고, 생활 편의를 높이는 도시 재설계를 추진하기로 했다.

이 도지사는 “마을 단위로 복구하되 집만 짓는 것이 아니라 사람과 공동체가 살아나는 방향이어야 한다”고 말했다. “사람이 떠난 마을은 무너질 수밖에 없다”며 “젊은 세대가 돌아올 수 있는 구조를 설계해야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

아울러 “산불 피해 재창조를 위해 대통령실과 직접 협의하고, 관련 부처와 법·제도 개선과 예산 확보에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다. 도청 내에 ‘민간투자 활성화 현장 지원 TF’를 구성해 신속한 행정 지원과 투자 유치에도 박차를 가할 계획이다.

한편, 경북도는 피해 지역 내 임시주택 2,458동 중 약 5동만 남겨두고 7월 10일 설치를 마무리할 예정이다.

Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk Province plans to finish installing only about 5 out of 2,458 temporary housing units in the affected area by July 10.
