【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 북구청이 어린이보호구역 4곳의 안전환경 개선을 마쳤다.

북구청(청장 배광식)은 29일 함지초등학교, 북부초등학교, 교동초등학교, 경전유치원 등 4개소 어린이보호구역에서 안전환경 개선사업을 완료했다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업에는 총 3억 3천만 원이 투입됐다. 북구청은 어린이 통학로의 안전성을 높이기 위해 옐로카펫과 노란발자국을 설치하고, 보행자 방호울타리를 보강하는 등 다양한 조치를 시행했다.

횡단보도 앞에 설치된 옐로카펫은 운전자의 시야를 확보해 서행을 유도한다. 노란발자국은 어린이들이 도로와 충분한 거리를 두고 신호를 기다릴 수 있도록 했다.

이 밖에도 기존 디자인 울타리를 차량 충돌 시 보행자를 보호할 수 있는 강화형 방호울타리로 교체하고, 노후 시설 정비와 도로 재포장도 추진해 물리적 안전성을 대폭 높였다.

이번 개선사업은 운전자와 어린이 모두의 안전 의식과 행동에 긍정적 변화를 가져온 것으로 평가된다. 북구청은 이번 조치를 통해 어린이 교통사고 위험이 크게 줄어들 것으로 기대하고 있다.

배광식 북구청장은 "어린이 안전은 최우선 가치"라며 "어린이 교통사고 제로를 목표로 앞으로도 지속적으로 안전환경 개선사업을 추진해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
