 【브레이크뉴스 경주】박영재 기자=경북도와 경주시가 5일 오전 11시, 국립경주박물관 천년미소관에서에서 ‘2025년 APEC 정상회의 성과보고회’를 열고 300일간의 준비 과정과 주요 성과를 공유했다.

이날 행사에는 이철우 경상북도지사, 김석기 국회의원, 주낙영 경주시장 등이 참석했다. 경북도는 “지방 중소도시로서는 전례 없는 국제행사를 단 한 건의 안전사고 없이 성공적으로 마쳤다”고 자평했다.

이 지사는 “경주의 역사와 문화, 경북의 행정력이 결합해 세계 어디에도 뒤지지 않는 국제행사 역량을 보여줬다”며 “APEC을 계기로 MICE 산업과 문화·경제 발전의 토대를 마련했다”고 밝혔다.

하지만 행사 이후 더불어민주당 경주시지역위원회는 “행사 진행이 편향됐다”며 비판 논평을 냈다.

민주당은 “국민의힘 지도부가 언론에서는 APEC을 실패했다고 혹평하면서도, 이철우 지사에게는 ‘성공했다’며 치하하는 이중 행태를 보였다”고 주장했다. 또 내빈 소개 과정에서 한영태 민주당 경주시지역위원장이 제외된 점을 “공적 행사에서의 비상식적 행위”라고 비판했다.

하지만 행사 관계자들은 “공식 초청 대상 명단과 진행 순서에 따른 절차일 뿐 특정 정당을 배제하려는 의도는 없었다”며 민주당의 주장은 “억지 해석”이라고 반박했다.

또한 현장에서는 이재명 대통령이나 김민석 국무총리에 대한 언급이 없었다는 민주당의 지적에 대해서도 “성과보고회는 지방정부 차원의 결과 공유 자리였을 뿐, 중앙정부 공로를 나열하는 정치행사가 아니다”라는 입장을 밝혔다. 

정치권 일각에서는 “행사의 본질은 APEC의 성공적 개최 성과를 공유하는 데 있었는데, 민주당이 정치적 해석을 덧씌워 본질을 흐리고 있다”는 지적도 나온다.

한 지역 인사는 “지방정부가 어렵게 치른 국제행사 성과를 정치 공방의 소재로 삼는 것은 시민 입장에서 피로감을 준다”고 말했다.

경북도는 이번 보고회를 계기로 ‘포스트 APEC’ 시대를 준비한다는 방침이다. 이철우 지사는 “경북과 경주가 보여준 저력은 앞으로도 글로벌 무대에서 빛날 것”이라며 “시민, 자원봉사자 모두가 만든 성과를 새로운 도약의 출발점으로 삼겠다”고 밝혔다.

However, following the event, the Gyeongju City Regional Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea issued a critical statement, claiming, "The event was conducted in a biased manner."

The Democratic Party claimed, "The People Power Party leadership displayed a double standard, criticizing APEC in the media as a failure while praising Governor Lee Cheol-woo for his 'success.'" They also criticized the exclusion of Han Yeong-tae, the Democratic Party's Gyeongju City Regional Committee Chairman, from the guest introduction process, calling it "an absurd behavior at a public event."

However, officials from North Gyeongsang Province refuted the Democratic Party's claim, stating, "It was simply a procedure based on the official invitation list and the order of events, and there was no intention to exclude any specific political party."

Furthermore, regarding the Democratic Party's claim that President Lee Jae-myung or Prime Minister Kim Min-seok were not mentioned at the event, they stated, "The performance report meeting was simply a space to share results at the local government level, not a political event to list the central government's achievements."

Some in the political community have also criticized the Democratic Party, saying, "The essence of the event was to share the success of APEC, but the Democratic Party is obscuring the essence by adding political interpretations."

A local official said, "It's tiring for citizens to see the results of international events, which local governments worked hard to host, being used as fodder for political debate."

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province plans to use this briefing as an opportunity to prepare for the post-APEC era. Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, "The strength demonstrated by Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongju will continue to shine on the global stage. We will use the achievements made by our citizens and volunteers as a starting point for a new leap forward."
