이날 사고는 오전 10시께 포스코DX 근로자들이 설비 수리를 위한 사전 작업을 진행하던 중 질산과 불산 등 유해가스를 흡입한 것으로 알려졌다. 이 사고로 50대 근로자 1명이 숨지고, 3명은 호흡곤란 등의 증세로 인근 병원에서 치료를 받고 있다.

이어 그는 “시민 모두가 안심할 수 있는 ‘안전 도시 포항’을 만드는 데 행정력을 총동원하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
