【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=경북 동해안권을 하나로 연결하는 포항~영덕 고속도로가 완성돼 7일 포항휴게소(포항 방향)에서 개통식이 성황리에 열렸다.

총연장 30.92km, 왕복 4차로 규모의 포항~영덕 고속도로는 총 1조 6천억 원이 투입돼 2016년 착공 후 9년 만에 결실을 맺었다. 개통식에는 이철우 경상북도지사, 김정재·이상휘 국회의원, 이강덕 포항시장, 김광열 영덕군수, 국토교통부 관계자 등 주요 인사와 시민 200여 명이 참석해 개통을 축하했다.

이번 노선은 포항시 북구 흥해읍 곡강리와 영덕군 강구면 상직리를 잇는 동해선(고속국도 제65호선)의 핵심 구간으로, 오는 8일 오전 10시부터 일반 차량 통행이 전면 허용된다.

개통으로 포항~영덕 간 이동 시간은 기존 국도 7호선을 이용할 때보다 20분 이상 단축될 전망이다. 이로써 동해안 광역 경제권 연결성이 대폭 강화되고 관광 활성화와 물류 효율성도 크게 개선될 것으로 기대된다.
