이날 오전 4시 5분께 독도 북동방 약 260km 동해퇴 해역에서 조업 중이던 A호(39톤, 근해연승, 주문진선적)에서 선장 김모(1968년생) 씨가 피를 토하며 쓰러졌다는 신고가 속초어선안전조업국을 통해 접수됐다.

동해해경청은 즉시 삼봉호(5001함)를 현장으로 급파했으며, 교신을 통해 환자가 의식은 있으나 목 부종과 호흡곤란 증세를 보이는 중증 상황임을 확인했다. 동해해경 양양항공대 헬기 ‘흰수리’도 4시 53분 긴급 투입됐다.
