【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=포항시가 지역 제조업의 인공지능(AI) 전환을 가속화하기 위한 혁신 거점을 공식 가동했다.

포항시는 경상북도와 함께 지난 8일 포항테크노파크 제5벤처동에서 ‘경북 AX랩 개소식 및 2025년 제조업 AI융합 기반 조성사업 성과공유회’를 개최했다. 이번 행사에는 경상북도와 포항시 관계자, 포항테크노파크, 제조기업 및 AI 기술기업 관계자 등 30여 명이 참석했다.

경북 AX랩은 제조 현장에서 발생하는 문제를 AI 기반 기술로 해결하고, 관련 솔루션을 개발·실증·확산하는 역할을 수행하는 전문 플랫폼이다. 철강, 기계, 연마, 소성, 물류 등 지역 주력산업 전반에 걸쳐 AI 활용 기반을 마련해 제조 생태계의 디지털 전환을 촉진할 전망이다.

개소식 이후 진행된 성과공유회에서는 올해 제조업 AI융합 기반 조성사업의 실증 결과가 발표됐다. 총 8개 과제가 수행됐으며 품질관리, 공정 최적화, 재고관리, 탄소 절감, 안전관리 등 제조 핵심 분야에서 가시적 성과가 도출된 것으로 보고됐다.

대표 사례로는 ▲포인드㈜의 ‘AI 기반 강판 표면 불량 검출 시스템’ ▲임팩티브AI의 ‘AI 기반 원재료 수요예측 및 지능형 재고관리 솔루션’ ▲㈜인그리드의 ‘소성로 공정 최적화 AI 시스템’ ▲유징테크㈜의 ‘대형 구조물 이송 AI 기반 안전관리 솔루션’ 등이 소개됐다.

특히 소성로 공정 최적화 시스템은 불꽃 이미지 분석 기반 품질 예측 모델과 실시간 공정 제어 기술을 결합해 온도 제어 오차를 ±5% 이내로 줄이고 불량률을 10% 개선한 것으로 발표돼 참석자들의 관심을 끌었다.

이강덕 포항시장은 “철강과 제조업은 포항 경제의 핵심이며, AI는 산업 전환을 견인할 결정적 기술”이라며 “AX랩을 중심으로 지역 제조기업이 품질, 비용, 안전, 생산성 전 영역에서 혁신을 이루고 포항이 대한민국 제조혁신의 중심 도시로 도약할 수 있도록 지원을 강화하겠다”고 말했다.

Pohang City officially launched an innovation hub to accelerate the local manufacturing industry's transition to artificial intelligence (AI).

Pohang City, together with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, held the 'Gyeongbuk AX Lab Opening Ceremony and 2025 Manufacturing AI Convergence Infrastructure Development Project Results Sharing Meeting' at Venture Building 5 of Pohang Technopark on the 8th. Approximately 30 people attended the event, including officials from Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, Pohang City, Pohang Technopark, manufacturing companies, and AI technology companies.

Gyeongbuk AX Lab is a specialized platform that uses AI-based technologies to solve manufacturing problems and develops, demonstrates, and disseminates related solutions. It is expected to establish a foundation for AI utilization across key regional industries, including steel, machinery, polishing, sintering, and logistics, thereby accelerating the digital transformation of the manufacturing ecosystem.

Following the opening ceremony, the results of this year's Manufacturing AI Convergence Infrastructure Development Project were announced at the results sharing meeting. A total of eight projects were implemented, and tangible results were reported in key manufacturing areas such as quality control, process optimization, inventory management, carbon reduction, and safety management.

Representative examples included: ▲POIND Co., Ltd.'s "AI-based steel plate surface defect detection system," ▲Impactive AI's "AI-based raw material demand forecasting and intelligent inventory management solution," ▲INGRID Co., Ltd.'s "AI-based sintering furnace process optimization system," and ▲YUJING TECH Co., Ltd.'s "AI-based safety management solution for large structure transport."

The sintering furnace process optimization system, in particular, attracted the attention of attendees as it combined a flame image analysis-based quality prediction model with real-time process control technology to reduce temperature control errors to within ±5% and improve the defect rate by 10%.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, "Steel and manufacturing are at the core of Pohang's economy, and AI is a crucial technology that will drive industrial transformation." He added, "With the AX Lab at its core, we will strengthen our support to help local manufacturing companies achieve innovation across all areas of quality, cost, safety, and productivity, and help Pohang become a leading city for manufacturing innovation in Korea."
