이번 성과는 기초자치단체 차원에서는 이례적인 사례로, 포항이 AI·디지털 기반 첨단산업 도시로 도약하고 있음을 상징적으로 보여주는 결과로 평가된다.

포항시는 CES 2026에서 유레카관(K-스타트업관) 4개 사와 일반관 4개 사 등 총 8개 사로 ‘포항관’을 조성해 글로벌 시장을 선도할 혁신 기술과 제품을 선보였다.

CES 2026은 전 세계 160여 개국, 4천여 개 기업이 참가하고 13만 명 이상의 참관객이 방문한 역대 최대 규모의 전시회로, 인공지능(AI)을 중심으로 디지털 헬스, 로봇, 첨단 모빌리티, 스마트 제조 등 미래 산업 전반의 혁신 기술이 대거 공개됐다. 특히 ‘혁신가의 등장(Innovators Show Up)’을 슬로건으로, AI가 산업과 일상에 실제 구현되는 ‘피지컬 AI 시대의 본격화’를 주요 흐름으로 제시했다.

특히 포항시는 7일 ‘포항 DAY 네트워킹’을 열고 CES에 참가한 지역기업 대표와 관계자 50여 명을 초청해 포항시의 미래 산업 비전을 공유하고, 기업별 애로사항을 청취하는 등 핵심 산업 육성을 위한 소통의 장을 마련했다.

아울러 대표단은 CES 전시관을 참관하며 AI 기반 제조혁신 기술과 산업 자동화 솔루션, 데이터 활용 플랫폼 등을 집중적으로 살펴보고, 철강·이차전지·제조업 등 포항의 주력 산업과 연계 가능한 AI 기술을 향후 산업정책에 접목하는 방안을 다각도로 모색했다.

장상길 포항시 부시장은 “CES 2026은 글로벌 산업의 현재와 미래를 동시에 확인할 수 있는 무대였다”며 “이번 수상 성과를 계기로 AI와 디지털 기술을 기반으로 한 제조혁신과 신산업 육성에 더욱 속도를 내겠다”고 말했다.

At CES 2026, Pohang City established a "Pohang Pavilion" with eight companies: four in the Eureka Pavilion (K-Startup Pavilion) and four in the general pavilion, showcasing innovative technologies and products that will lead the global market.

CES 2026 was the largest exhibition in history, with over 4,000 companies from 160 countries participating and over 130,000 attendees attending. Under the slogan "Innovators Show Up," the event highlighted the "full-blown arrival of the Physical AI era," where AI is practically implemented in industry and daily life, as its main trend.

Amidst this global competition, Pohang companies achieved the remarkable feat of winning one Best of Innovation Award and five Innovation Awards. The CT5 won the Best of Innovation Award, while The Keeper, Hibo, Omnicoat, and Wearable AI (two innovation awards each) each received Innovation Awards.

Key exhibited products included: CT5's AI-based wearable device, The Keeper's early fire detection and response system for electric vehicles, Hibo's radar-based detection solution, Omnicoat's dry toner for metal digital printing, and Wearable AI's indoor autonomous shuttle. Their innovation and practicality were recognized, leading to active business consultations and contract inquiries on-site.

Notably, Pohang City held "Pohang DAY Networking" on the 7th, inviting approximately 50 representatives and officials from local companies participating in CES. The event provided a forum for communication aimed at fostering key industries, including sharing Pohang's vision for future industries and listening to individual companies' challenges.

Furthermore, the delegation toured the CES exhibition hall, focusing on AI-based manufacturing innovation technologies, industrial automation solutions, and data utilization platforms. They also explored various ways to integrate AI technologies into future industrial policies, linking them with Pohang's key industries, such as steel, secondary batteries, and manufacturing.
