대구대는 1956년 고(故) 이영식 목사가 기독교 정신을 토대로 장애인 등 사회적 약자를 위한 교육을 실천하기 위해 설립한 대구맹아학교를 모체로 한 대학이다. 개교 이래 ‘사랑·빛·자유’의 건학 이념 아래 장애인과 소외된 이웃, 지역사회를 위한 교육과 복지를 지속적으로 실천해 오고 있다.

대학은 2024년부터 기독학사 건립 논의를 본격화하고, 지난해에는 대학 내 기독신우회를 중심으로 특별위원회(위원장 정석연 교수)를 구성해 체계적인 준비에 착수했다. 기독학사는 단순한 기숙사를 넘어 신앙과 공동체적 삶, 인성 교육이 함께 이뤄지는 공간으로 조성될 예정이다. 이에 따라 기존 비호생활관을 리모델링하는 방식으로 단계적인 사업을 추진하고 있다.

이 같은 계획에 지역 교회들도 적극 화답하고 있다. 대구대는 지난해 6월 ‘Again 사랑·빛·자유, 지역교회와 함께하는 협력의 날’을 열어 지역 교회 목회자들을 초청하고 기독학사 건립 취지와 비전을 공유하며 연대의 기반을 다졌다.

그 결실로 대구동신교회(담임목사 문대원)는 지난해 12월 4일 기독학사 건립 취지에 공감해 1억 원의 대학 발전기금을 기탁했다. 이어 경산중앙교회(담임목사 김종원)도 지난 1월 14일 대구대 성산홀에서 열린 발전기금 전달식에서 6천만 원을 전달하며 뜻을 함께했다.

대구대는 이렇게 조성된 기금을 비호생활관 리모델링을 포함한 기독학사 건립 사업에 활용하고, 앞으로도 지역 교회와의 지속적인 소통과 협력을 통해 신앙 기반의 교육 공동체를 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

박순진 대구대 총장은 “대학 설립자인 고 이영식 목사의 정신을 계승하는 기독학사는 신앙과 배움, 공동체가 어우러지는 공간이 될 것”이라며 “이 뜻에 공감하고 함께해 주는 지역 교회의 관심과 기도에 깊이 감사드린다”고 말했다.

As a result, Daegu Dongshin Church (Senior Pastor Moon Dae-won) donated 100 million won to the university's development fund on December 4th of last year, expressing its support for the building of the Christian dormitory. Gyeongsan Central Church (Senior Pastor Kim Jong-won) also joined the effort, donating 60 million won at a fund-raising ceremony held at Daegu University's Seongsan Hall on January 14th.

Daegu University plans to use these funds for the Christian dormitory construction project, including the sheltered dormitory remodeling, and to continue expanding its faith-based educational community through continued communication and cooperation with local churches.

Daegu University President Park Soon-jin said, “The Christian College, which carries on the spirit of the late Rev.
