【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=선린대학교(총장 곽진환)는 21일(현지시간) 미국 실리콘밸리에서 글로벌 스타트업 엑셀러레이팅 전문 기관인 JC VALLEY(대표 조태일)와 창업 생태계 조성을 위한 글로벌 시장 진출 및 엑셀러레이팅 파트너십 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

JC VALLEY는 초기 투자와 초기·성장 단계 스타트업의 해외 진출 컨설팅을 전문으로 하는 글로벌 어드바이저리 플랫폼으로, 실리콘밸리 현지 네트워크를 기반으로 한국 기업들의 북미 시장 진출을 지원하고 있다.

이번 협약은 선린대학교가 발굴한 유망 재학생과 졸업생, 지역사회 스타트업 기업들이 해외 시장에 성공적으로 진입하고 현지에 안정적으로 안착할 수 있도록 체계적인 지원 시스템을 구축하기 위해 마련됐다.

양 기관은 협약을 통해 ▲글로벌 시장 진출을 목표로 한 유망 스타트업 발굴 및 선정 ▲현지 영업 채널 개발과 비즈니스 기회 확대 ▲투자자 및 파트너 연계를 포함한 로컬 네트워크 공유 ▲글로벌 스타트업 생태계 활성화를 위한 협력 등 창업 전반에 걸쳐 협력을 강화하기로 했다.

특히 선린대학교의 창업 교육·연구 역량과 JC VALLEY의 글로벌 네트워크를 연계해 초기 및 성장 단계 스타트업의 해외 진출 성공률을 높인다는 계획이다.

곽진환 선린대학교 총장은 “이번 협약은 대학과 지역에서 발굴·육성한 인재와 스타트업이 국내를 넘어 글로벌 시장으로 도약할 수 있는 실질적인 기반을 마련했다는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “실리콘밸리 인프라를 갖춘 JC VALLEY와의 협력을 통해 경쟁력 있는 스타트업을 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

조태일 JC VALLEY 대표는 “한국 스타트업의 기술력은 이미 세계적 수준”이라며 “현지 네트워크와 전문성을 바탕으로 재학생·졸업생 및 지역 스타트업들이 글로벌 시장에서 가시적인 성과를 낼 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 선린대학교는 이번 업무협약을 계기로 RISE(지역혁신중심 대학지원체계) 사업과 연계해 지역 창업 생태계를 글로벌 수준으로 확대하고, 대학·지역·기업이 함께 성장하는 선순환 구조를 구축해 나갈 방침이다.

JC VALLEY is a global advisory platform specializing in early-stage investments and overseas expansion consulting for early-stage and growth-stage startups. Leveraging its local Silicon Valley network, it supports Korean companies entering the North American market.

This agreement aims to establish a systematic support system to ensure that promising students, alumni, and local startups identified by Sunlin University successfully enter overseas markets and establish stable local presence.

Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to strengthen cooperation across all aspects of startup development, including ▲discovering and selecting promising startups targeting global market entry, ▲developing local sales channels and expanding business opportunities, ▲sharing local networks, including connections with investors and partners, and ▲collaborating to revitalize the global startup ecosystem.

In particular, the plan is to link Sunlin University's entrepreneurship education and research capabilities with JC VALLEY's global network to increase the success rate of early-stage and growth-stage startups in expanding overseas.

President Kwak Jin-hwan of Sunlin University stated, "This agreement is significant in that it provides a practical foundation for talent and startups discovered and nurtured by the university and the region to leap beyond the domestic market and into the global market. We will actively support competitive startups through collaboration with JC VALLEY, which boasts Silicon Valley infrastructure."

Meanwhile, Seonlin University plans to use this business agreement as an opportunity to expand the local startup ecosystem to a global level by linking it with the RISE (Regional Innovation-Oriented University Support System) project and establish a virtuous cycle structure in which universities, regions, and companies grow together.
