신효광 농수산위원장은 “비료값과 인건비가 지속적으로 상승하는 가운데 양파 가격만 하락하는 상황이 이어지면서 2026년 양파 재배의향 면적도 1만6,952ha로 전년 대비 6.9% 감소한 것으로 조사됐다”며 “양파 재배면적 감소는 감자·마늘 등 재배 여건이 유사한 작목으로 전환을 유도해 다른 작목 가격 폭락으로 이어질 가능성도 있다”고 우려했다. 이어 “정부는 사후 대응에서 벗어나 선제적이고 체계적인 수급 관리 대책을 마련해야 한다”고 강조했다.
박성만 경북도의회 의장은 “2025년산 양파 가격은 수확 직후인 4월 1,368원에서 6월 767원으로 두 달 사이 40% 이상 급락하며 사실상 생산비 이하 수준까지 떨어졌다”며 “양파 가격이 생산비에도 못 미치는 상황을 막기 위해 도의회가 농민 곁에서 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

He added, "The decline in onion cultivation could lead to a shift to crops with similar growing conditions, such as potatoes and garlic, which could lead to a sharp drop in prices for other crops." He further emphasized, "The government must move beyond reactive measures and establish proactive and systematic supply and demand management measures."
