이날 보고회에서는 지난 1월 시장 권한대행을 유치단장으로 격상해 운영 중인 유치추진단의 거버넌스 체계를 점검하고, 그동안의 추진 현황과 함께 유치 경쟁에서 우위를 확보하기 위한 전략 보강 및 공모 대응 방안을 집중 논의했다.

대구시는 지난 2014년부터 대구시치과의사회와 협력해 홍보 활동을 비롯해 유치 타당성 연구용역, 전문가 포럼 개최, 중앙부처 및 정치권 설득 등 다양한 유치 활동을 이어왔다.

특히 지난해 10월 대통령 주재 대구 타운홀미팅에서 보건복지부 장관이 연구원 설립 공모 추진 방침을 공식화하면서 대구의 유치 활동에도 중요한 전환점이 마련됐다.

대구는 비수도권 최대 규모의 치과산업 거점도시로 평가받는다. 관련 기업은 42개 사로 서울·경기에 이어 전국 3위 규모이며, 생산액 4,338억 원과 부가가치액 3,013억 원으로 전국 2위를 기록하고 있다. 또한 국내 10대 치과 기업 가운데 메가젠과 덴티스 등 2개 기업이 대구에 위치해 산업 기반도 탄탄하다.

연구 인프라 측면에서도 강점을 갖추고 있다. 대구첨단의료복합단지 내 예정 부지에는 한국뇌연구원, 신약개발지원센터, 첨단의료기기개발지원센터 등 11개 의료 관련 국책기관이 집적돼 있어 기초연구부터 임상, 사업화까지 연계 가능한 연구 환경을 갖추고 있다.

대구시는 앞으로 후보지 선정 공모에 대비해 유치 타당성과 논리를 지속적으로 보강하고, 오는 4월 권한대행 주재 유치추진단 전체회의를 열어 민·관·산·학·연 유관기관 역량을 결집한 구체적인 실행계획을 마련할 계획이다.

또 5월 약령시 한방문화축제, 6월 구강보건의 날, 7월 대구국제치과기자재전시회(DIDEX 2026) 등 지역 주요 행사와 연계한 유치 홍보부스를 운영해 시민 공감대 확산에도 나설 방침이다.

정의관 대구시 미래혁신성장실장은 “대구는 이미 완성된 치의학 산업 생태계를 보유한 최적의 입지”라며 “대학과 병원, 기업 등 유관기관과의 협력을 바탕으로 대구만의 차별화된 유치 전략을 마련하고 시민 공감대 확산에 총력을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

In preparation for the open call for candidate site selection, Daegu City plans to continuously reinforce the feasibility and rationale for its bid. Additionally, the city intends to hold a general meeting of the bid promotion task force, chaired by the Acting Mayor, this coming April to formulate a concrete implementation plan that consolidates the capabilities of relevant public, private, industrial, academic, and research institutions. In addition, the city plans to expand public consensus by operating promotional booths linked to major local events, such as the Yaknyeongsi Traditional Medicine Culture Festival in May, National Oral Health Day in June, and the Daegu International Dental Exhibition (DIDEX 2026) in July.

Jeong Ui-gwan, Director of the Future Innovation and Growth Office of Daegu City, stated, “Daegu is the optimal location, possessing an already established dental industry ecosystem.” He added, “Based on cooperation with related institutions such as universities, hospitals, and companies, we will devise a differentiated attraction strategy unique to Daegu and devote all our efforts to expanding public consensus.”
