경산시(시장 조현일)는 최근 관제센터 관제원의 끈질긴 CCTV 모니터링을 통해 음주운전자를 적발했다고 밝혔다.
시에 따르면 지난 11일 오전 5시경 사동 일대에서 한 관제원이 술에 취한 상태로 노상에 주차된 차량에 탑승하는 장면을 포착했다. 음주운전 가능성이 높다고 판단한 관제원은 즉시 경찰에 신고했고, 출동한 경찰은 해당 운전자에게 주의를 주는 등 계도 조치를 실시했다.
하지만 해당 운전자는 순찰차가 현장을 떠난 직후 차량을 운전해 이동했고, 관제원은 이를 지속적으로 추적·관제하며 경찰에 상황을 실시간으로 전달했다. 결국 경찰은 현장에서 운전자를 검거하는 데 성공했다.
경산경찰서는 음주운전으로 인한 2차 사고를 사전에 예방하고 시민 안전 확보에 기여한 공로를 인정해 해당 관제원에게 지난 24일 표창장을 수여했다.
경산시 관계자는 “앞으로도 CCTV 통합관제센터를 통한 선제적 범죄 예방 활동을 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
