Daegu City Selected for Both Social Solidarity Economy Projects… Accelerating Regional Innovation with 1.4 Billion Won in State Funding

Daegu Metropolitan City is accelerating the establishment of a regional innovation ecosystem by securing 1.4 billion won in state funding through consecutive selections for government projects aimed at revitalizing the social solidarity economy.

Daegu City announced on the 23rd that it was finally selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "Project for Discovering and Disseminating Social Solidarity Economy Innovation Models" and the Ministry of Employment and Labor's "Project for Revitalizing Regional Ecosystems by Strategic Project." Accordingly, the city plans to strengthen the foundation of the social solidarity economy by investing a total project budget of 2.2 billion won, including 1.4 billion won in state funding (500 million won from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and 900 million won from the Ministry of Employment and Labor).

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety's project will be implemented with a focus on "revitalizing the regional circular economy ecosystem" and "strengthening regional community care capabilities." The city plans to expand citizen-participatory solar power plants, establish a Daegu-style online public procurement platform and integrated logistics management system, and provide interest subsidies on loans for social solidarity economy enterprises as well as support for an emergency livelihood safety net for their employees. In addition, it will strengthen community-based care systems, such as housing support in the form of shared houses and customized internships, to help individuals with developmental disabilities transitioning into adulthood achieve independence.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor's project focuses on solving local social problems, centering on the fields of "labor integration" and "integrated care." In the "labor integration" sector, a step-by-step support system will be established for vulnerable youth who have taken a break from work or have given up on job searching, covering everything from identification to recovery, work experience, and employment. In the "integrated care" sector, plans include operating "intermediate homes" for the elderly who have difficulty returning home after discharge, providing integrated care services for the elderly living at home, and introducing a community-managed care model.

Through this project, Daegu City intends to concentrate its administrative capabilities on establishing a public-private partnership involving various social solidarity economy enterprises and disseminating region-specific problem-solving models. Kim Jeong-gi, Acting Mayor of Daegu, stated, “This selection will serve as an opportunity to breathe new vitality into the local social solidarity economy,” adding, “We will establish a virtuous cycle in the local economy through the transition to renewable energy and the expansion of public procurement, and actively expand the participation of social solidarity economy enterprises in resolving local issues such as integrated care and support for youth work experience.”
