동대구역과 혁신도시가 동구 성장 거점으로 평가받지만 지역 상권과 생활권으로 연결되지 못했다는 지적에 대해서는 구조적 한계를 언급했다.

신 후보는 “혁신도시는 공공기관이 들어왔지만 주민 체감 효과는 기대보다 크지 않았다”며 “입주 기관과 지역 상권, 청년 일자리, 주민 소비가 연결되는 구조가 부족했다”고 말했다.

이어 “공공기관 임직원과 지역 상권이 함께 살아나는 상생 모델을 만들고, 지역 우선 채용과 지역 물품 구매를 확대하는 협력 체계를 구축하겠다”고 했다.

대구공항 이전 논의 장기화로 주민 피로감이 커졌다는 지적에 대해선 실행력을 강조했다.

산업 침체와 청년 유출 해법으로는 공항 후적지 미래산업 단지 조성을 제시했다.
