의성군 보건소는 지난 27일 계절근로(E-8) 비자로 입국한 외국인 근로자를 대상으로 마약 검사를 실시했다고 밝혔다. 외국인 계절근로자는 농번기 인력난 해소를 위해 단기간 체류하며 농업 현장에 투입되는 인력을 의미한다.
군은 법무부의 마약 검사 인정기관 확대에 발맞춰 지난 2023년부터 ‘외국인 계절근로자 마약 검사 지원사업’을 추진해오고 있다. 특히 경상북도 내에서 유일하게 보건소가 직접 검사를 시행하고 있어 신속하고 체계적인 관리가 가능하다는 점에서 지역 농가의 호응을 얻고 있다.
의성군은 2026년 입국 예정인 외국인 계절근로자와 결혼이민자 친척 등 총 706명을 대상으로 검사를 지원할 계획이다. 검사 인원은 2023년 237명에서 2024년 642명, 2025년 514명으로 증가 추세를 보이며, 이에 따라 선제적 대응체계도 강화되고 있다.
검사 항목은 필수 마약 4종(필로폰, 코카인, 아편, 대마)과 함께 신장, 체중, 색신, 시력 등 기본 신체검사로 구성되며, 모든 검사는 무료로 제공된다.
김주수 군수는 “외국인 계절근로자는 지역 농업의 중요한 인력자원인 만큼 건강관리와 안전 확보가 무엇보다 중요하다”며 “지속적인 검사와 관리를 통해 군민과 근로자 모두가 안심할 수 있는 농업환경을 조성해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
