【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=이진숙 예비후보가 대구 달성군 국회의원 보궐선거에 출마를 공식화하며 선거운동을 본격 시작했다.

이 후보는 당초 대구시장 출마 의사를 고수하다가 방향을 틀어 달성군 보궐선거에 나서면서 정치권의 관심이 쏠리고 있다.

이 예비후보는 7일 SNS를 통해 ‘다시 출발선에서’라는 제목의 글을 올려 “달성군이라는 새로운 출발선에 섰다”며 “대구와 달성, 그리고 대한민국의 미래를 생각한다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “자유민주주의의 출발과 성장을 지켜온 대구, 그리고 그 상징인 달성에서 자유민주주의를 지켜내겠다”며 “성장의 엔진 역할을 해온 달성에서 군민들과 함께하겠다”고 강조했다.

이 후보는 이날 달성 선거캠프에서 첫 회의를 가진 뒤 달성군노인복지관 경로잔치 현장을 방문해 어르신들과 인사를 나누며 공식 일정을 시작했다. 오는 10일 오후 3시에는 선거사무소 개소식을 열 예정이다.

지역 정치권에서는 이번 출마를 두고 다양한 해석이 나오고 있다. 

이 후보는 국민의힘 대구시장 후보 공천 과정에서 컷오프된 뒤, “컷오프는 민주주의에 대한 배신”이라며 당 지도부와 공천 결과를 강하게 비판한 바 있다. 재보궐선거 차출론이 제기됐을 당시에도 “사전에 어떤 논의도 없었다”고 선을 그었다.

지난 4월에는 차명진 전 의원이 장동혁 대표의 재보궐선거 출마 권유를 비판하는 글을 SNS에 공유하며 “기차는 떠나고”라는 표현을 남기기도 했다. 당시에는 이를 두고 재보궐선거 출마 가능성에 선을 긋는다는 해석이 정치권 일각에서 제기됐다.

그러나 이 후보는 지난 4월 25일 대구시장 후보 발표를 하루 앞두고 “보수 분열은 없다”며 대구시장 출마를 돌연 포기했다.

달성군 보궐선거 출마로 입장을 정리한 이 후보에 대해, 일각에서는 대구시장 경선에서 탈락한 뒤 당내 입지 회복과 정치적 재기의 초석을 마련하려는 움직임이라는 평가도 이어지고 있다.

정치권 한 관계자는 “대구시장 도전에 무게를 두던 흐름에서 비교적 짧은 시간 안에 보궐선거 도전으로 선회했다”며 “유권자 입장에서는 이러한 변화의 배경과 명분을 어떻게 받아들일지가 중요한 관건이 될 것”이라고 말했다.

한편 이 후보 측은 “대구의 자존심인 달성에서 더 낮고 가까운 자세로 군민들과 함께 호흡할 것”이라며 현장 중심의 선거운동에 집중한다는 계획을 밝혔다.
