더불어민주당 박희정 후보는 이날 형산로터리 집중유세와 충혼탑 참배, 죽도시장 합동 출정식을 잇달아 진행하며 공식 선거운동 첫 일정을 소화했다.

박 후보는 오전 7시 형산로터리에서 전체 선거운동원들과 함께 출근길 시민들에게 첫 인사를 건네며 집중유세를 벌였다. 이어 오전 9시 30분에는 포항시 북구 학산동 충혼탑을 찾아 선거본부 관계자 및 선거운동원들과 함께 순국선열과 호국영령을 참배하며 필승 의지를 다졌다.

오후에는 죽도시장에서 오중기 경북도지사 후보와 포항지역 더불어민주당 출마자들이 참석한 가운데 합동 출정식을 열고 세 결집에 나섰다.

박 후보는 출정식 연설에서 “오늘 이 자리는 단순한 출정식이 아니라 무너져가는 포항 경제를 다시 일으키고 멈춰선 포항의 시간을 다시 움직이겠다는 시민 희망의 출발점”이라고 밝혔다.

이어 “포항은 철강산업 위기와 청년 유출, 골목경제 침체, 원도심 공동화 등 복합 위기 앞에 서 있다”며 “시민 삶은 달라진 것이 없었다는 절박한 목소리에 답하기 위해 이 자리에 섰다”고 강조했다.

또 “이번 선거는 단순한 정당 대결이 아니라 포항이 과거에 머물 것인지 새로운 미래로 나아갈 것인지를 결정하는 선거”라며 “중앙정부와 직접 연결되는 집권여당 시장으로 포항의 변화를 반드시 만들어내겠다”고 말했다.

박 후보는 철강산업 위기 대응과 수소환원제철 국가전략도시 추진, 북극항로 국가전략 거점 조성, 청년 정착도시 조성, 원도심 재생 등을 핵심 공약으로 제시하며 “말만 하는 시장이 아니라 일을 되게 하는 시장이 되겠다”고 밝혔다.

이어 “포항시의원을 세 차례 지내며 시민들 곁에서 현장을 지켜왔다”며 “깨끗하고 힘 있는 시민의 시장이 되어 포항경제를 확 바꾸겠다”고 덧붙였다.

박 후보는 22일 흥해시장과 동해시장 장날 유세에 나서는 등 민생 현장 중심의 선거운동을 이어갈 예정이다.

국민의힘 박용선 후보도 이날 이철우 경북도지사 후보와 함께 공식 선거운동 첫 일정을 시작했다.

박 후보는 오전 영천 국립호국원에서 이철우 후보와 함께 순국선열에 대한 분향과 묵념을 한 뒤 북구 청하시장과 우창동 일대에서 시민들을 만나며 거리 유세를 진행했다.

오후 4시에는 죽도시장 개풍약국 앞에서 대규모 출정식을 열었다. 현장에는 구자근 국민의힘 경북도당위원장을 비롯해 김정재·이상휘 국회의원과 지역 도·시의원 후보들이 참석해 지원 유세를 펼쳤다.

이철우 후보는 연설에서 “박용선 후보와는 오랜 정치적 동반자이자 협력자”라며 “경북 제1의 도시 포항의 위상에 걸맞게 지원과 협력을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.

박용선 후보는 시민들에게 큰절로 인사한 뒤 “도지사가 밀어주고 국회의원들이 당겨주는 원팀 정신으로 동남권 대표 초혁신 산업도시 포항을 만들겠다”고 강조했다.

이어 “지난 28년간의 관료주의로는 현재의 위기를 극복할 수 없다”며 “시민 중심·현장 중심의 정책과 강력한 추진력으로 시민 목소리가 행정으로 실천되도록 하겠다”고 말했다.

박 후보는 포스코 등 전통 철강산업 지원과 함께 이차전지·바이오·AI·로봇·그래핀 등 첨단산업 기업 유치를 통해 지역경제를 활성화하겠다는 구상도 밝혔다.

그는 “돈이 돌고 골목상권과 자영업이 살아나는 도시, 청년이 신나고 어르신이 존경받는 행복 도시를 반드시 완성하겠다”며 “말만 앞서는 정치가 아니라 현장에서 답을 찾는 실천하는 시장이 되겠다”고 말했다.

또 “포항의 위기 극복을 위해서는 모든 역량을 하나로 모으는 대통합이 필요하다”며 “기업과 정치권, 행정의 화합을 반드시 이뤄내겠다”고 강조했다.

박 후보는 “민주당이나 무소속 시장으로는 도지사·국회의원·지방의회와의 갈등과 분열을 막을 수 없다”며 국민의힘 후보들에 대한 지지를 호소했다.
