포항상공회의소(회장 나주영) 경북동부FTA통상진흥센터는 27일 포항상공회의소 2층 회의실에서 ‘한-UAE CEPA 협정 및 대미 수출 원산지 규정·판정 설명회’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 설명회는 최근 중동시장 진출 확대와 글로벌 공급망 재편 움직임에 대응해 지역 철강·자동차 부품 기업들의 실질적인 FTA 활용 전략을 지원하기 위해 마련됐다.

행사에는 KOTRA 통상협력팀 이효연 팀장과 한국원산지정보원 활용연구팀 오윤진 팀장이 강사로 참여해 한-UAE CEPA(포괄적경제동반자협정)의 주요 내용과 대미 수출 과정에서의 원산지 규정 및 판정 사례 등을 중심으로 강의를 진행했다.

특히 UAE가 중동과 아프리카 시장 진출의 핵심 물류 거점으로 평가받는 만큼, 철강과 자동차 부품, 밸브 등 지역 주력 산업의 수출 확대 가능성에 대한 기대감도 높아지고 있다.

설명회에서는 철강 및 자동차 부품 분야를 중심으로 협정 발효에 따른 단계적 관세 철폐 혜택과 이에 따른 가격 경쟁력 확보 방안, 신규 해외 바이어 발굴 전략 등에 대한 안내도 함께 이뤄졌다.

포항상공회의소 관계자는 “한-UAE CEPA를 비롯해 변화하는 글로벌 통상환경과 원산지 규정에 효과적으로 대응할 수 있도록 지역 기업 대상 설명회와 교육, 맞춤형 상담 지원을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획”이라고 말했다.

Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Gyeongbuk Eastern FTA Trade Promotion Center Holds Briefing on Korea-UAE CEPA and Rules of Origin for Exports to the U.S.

The Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry has stepped forward to support local export companies in strengthening their capacity to utilize Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and responding to changes in the global trade environment.

The Gyeongbuk Eastern FTA Trade Promotion Center of the Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Na Ju-young) announced that it held a ‘Briefing on the Korea-UAE CEPA Agreement and Rules of Origin and Determinations for Exports to the U.S.’ on the 27th at the conference room on the second floor of the Chamber.

This briefing was organized to support practical FTA utilization strategies for local steel and automotive parts companies in response to recent expansion into the Middle East market and movements toward the restructuring of global supply chains. Lee Hyo-yeon, Team Leader of KOTRA’s Trade Cooperation Team, and Oh Yoon-jin, Team Leader of the Utilization Research Team at the Korea Information Society Agency for Origin, participated as lecturers at the event. They delivered lectures focusing on the key contents of the Korea-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as well as rules of origin and ruling cases regarding exports to the U.S.

In particular, as the UAE is recognized as a core logistics hub for entering the Middle East and African markets, expectations are rising regarding the potential for expanding exports in key regional industries such as steel, automotive parts, and valves.

The briefing session also provided guidance, focusing on the steel and automotive parts sectors, on the benefits of phased tariff elimination following the agreement's entry into force, strategies for securing price competitiveness, and strategies for identifying new overseas buyers.

An official from the Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated, "We plan to continuously expand briefing sessions, training, and customized consultation support for local companies to help them effectively respond to the changing global trade environment and rules of origin, including the Korea-UAE CEPA."
