한울원자력본부는 오는 6월 12일 울진 덕구온천호텔에서 ‘2025년도 한울본부 주변 환경방사능 조사 결과 주민설명회’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
이번 설명회는 경북대학교 방사선과학연구소가 주관하며, 한울원전 인근 지역에서 수집한 시료를 분석한 환경방사능 조사 결과를 발표할 예정이다. 행사에는 지역 주민을 비롯해 언론 관계자와 한울원전환경감시위원회 관계자 등이 참석해 조사 결과를 함께 확인할 계획이다.
조사 대상은 부구, 죽변, 매화 등 한울본부 주변 18개 지점에서 채취한 시료 673개와 주민들이 직접 채취 과정에 참여한 시료 82개를 포함해 총 755개다.
특히 주민들이 시료 채취 과정에 함께 참여함으로써 조사 절차의 신뢰성과 투명성을 높였다는 점이 이번 조사의 특징으로 꼽힌다.
설명회에서는 시료 분석 결과와 환경방사능 수준에 대한 조사 내용을 공유하고, 주민들의 이해를 돕기 위한 질의응답 시간도 마련될 예정이다.
한울본부는 원전 운영에 따른 환경 영향을 지속적으로 확인하기 위해 매년 환경방사능 조사를 실시하고 있으며, 조사 결과를 공개해 지역사회와의 소통을 강화하고 있다.
한울본부 관계자는 “환경방사능 조사 결과를 주민들에게 투명하게 공개하고 의견을 공유하는 과정을 통해 신뢰를 높여 나갈 계획”이라며 “앞으로도 지속적인 환경 감시와 정보 공개를 통해 안전한 원전 운영에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
