달성군은 4일 현풍읍 충혼탑에 승강기와 연결 보도교를 설치하는 사업을 완료하고 참배객들이 보다 안전하고 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 시설을 개방했다고 밝혔다.
그동안 충혼탑은 가파른 계단으로 인해 고령의 국가유공자와 유족, 장애인 등 교통약자들의 이용에 어려움이 있다는 지적이 꾸준히 제기돼 왔다.
이번 사업에는 총 15억8천만 원의 예산이 투입됐으며, 지난해 11월 착공 이후 약 7개월 만에 준공됐다. 충혼탑 입구에는 21인승 규모의 엘리베이터가 설치됐고, 승강기와 충혼탑을 연결하는 강관거더 방식의 보도교도 함께 조성됐다.
새롭게 설치된 시설에는 보훈의 의미를 담은 디자인 요소도 반영됐다. 엘리베이터 외벽에는 태극 문양과 군인 형상이 적용됐으며, 보도교 유리 난간에는 무궁화 문양을 새겨 국가를 위한 희생과 헌신의 가치를 표현했다.
또한 보도교 상부에는 비와 햇빛을 막을 수 있는 캐노피를 설치해 이용 편의를 높였으며, 충혼탑 일대에는 야간 경관조명을 새롭게 조성해 밤에도 안전하게 이동할 수 있는 환경을 마련했다.
군은 이번 시설 개선으로 보훈가족과 고령층의 참배 편의가 크게 향상될 뿐만 아니라 추모 공간의 품격과 안전성도 한층 높아질 것으로 기대하고 있다.
최재훈 달성군수는 “충혼탑은 지역 보훈정신을 상징하는 중요한 공간이지만 지형적 여건으로 인해 참배에 불편을 겪는 분들이 많았다”며 “현충일을 앞두고 보훈가족과 교통약자들이 보다 편안하고 경건한 마음으로 참배할 수 있는 환경이 마련돼 뜻깊게 생각한다”고 말했다.
이어 “앞으로도 국가유공자와 보훈가족에 대한 예우를 강화하고 일상 속에서 보훈의 가치를 실천하는 보훈도시 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 달성군은 참전유공자 지원사업을 비롯해 보훈가족 감사행사, 안보 체험 프로그램 등 다양한 보훈 정책을 추진하고 있다. 특히 참전유공자 위로금 지급과 보훈문화 확산 활동 등의 성과를 인정받아 보훈문화상을 수상하는 등 호국보훈 선도도시로서의 위상을 높여가고 있다.

On the 4th, Dalseong-gun announced that it had completed the project to install an elevator and a connecting pedestrian bridge at the War Memorial Tower in Hyeonpung-eup and opened the facilities to allow visitors to use them more safely and conveniently.
Criticism has been consistently raised that the steep stairs at the War Memorial Tower make it difficult for the mobility-impaired, including elderly national merit recipients, bereaved families, and people with disabilities, to use.
A total budget of 1.58 billion won was invested in this project, which was completed approximately seven months after groundbreaking last November. A 21-passenger elevator was installed at the entrance of the War Memorial Tower, and a steel girder-style pedestrian bridge connecting the elevator to the tower was also constructed.
Design elements reflecting the spirit of patriotism were also incorporated into the newly installed facilities. The exterior walls of the elevator feature the Taegeuk pattern and images of soldiers, while the glass railings of the pedestrian bridge are engraved with the Mugunghwa (Hibiscus) pattern, expressing the value of sacrifice and devotion for the nation.
