【브레이크뉴스 울진】이우근 기자=한국수력원자력 한울원자력본부가 바다의 날을 맞아 발전소 온배수를 활용해 양식한 어·패류를 방류하며 지역 어업 지원에 나섰다.

한울원자력본부는 5일 울진 석호항에서 강도다리 치어 3만 마리와 전복 치패 2만 마리를 방류하는 행사를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 이세용 본부장을 비롯해 지역 어민 대표들이 참석해 어족자원 회복과 어업 활성화를 기원했다.

한울본부는 발전소에서 발생하는 온배수를 활용해 강도다리와 전복 등을 양식한 뒤 지역 해역에 방류하는 사업을 지속적으로 추진하고 있다. 1999년부터 시작된 방류사업을 통해 현재까지 지역 연안에 방류한 어·패류는 총 275만 마리에 달한다.

이번에 방류된 강도다리 치어와 전복 치패는 발전소 인근 해역의 수산자원 증식과 해양 생태계 회복에 기여하는 한편, 향후 어획량 증가를 통해 지역 어민들의 소득 향상에도 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

방학수 회장은 “한울본부가 27년 동안 지역 어업인들과 상생하기 위해 꾸준히 노력해 준 데 감사드린다”며 “방류된 치어와 치패가 건강하게 성장해 어민들의 안정적인 소득 증대로 이어지길 기대한다”고 말했다.

이세용 본부장은 “지속적으로 추진해 온 어·패류 방류사업이 지역 해역의 어족자원 조성과 어민 소득 증대에 도움이 되기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회에 실질적인 도움이 되는 상생사업을 적극 발굴하고 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Releases Fish and Shellfish Using Warm Wastewater to Support Recovery of Local Fish Stocks

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Headquarters has stepped forward to support the local fisheries industry by releasing fish and shellfish farmed using the power plant's warm wastewater in celebration of Ocean Day.

The Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Headquarters announced that it held an event on the 5th at Seokho Port in Uljin to release 30,000 juvenile flounder and 20,000 juvenile abalone.

Headquarters Director Lee Se-yong and representatives of local fishermen attended the event to pray for the recovery of fish stocks and the revitalization of the fishing industry.

The Hanul Headquarters has been continuously pursuing a project to farm flounder and abalone using the warm wastewater generated from the power plant and then release them into local waters. Through this release project, which began in 1999, a total of 2.75 million fish and shellfish have been released into the local coast to date. The juvenile flounder and abalone spat released this time are expected to contribute to the increase of fishery resources and the restoration of the marine ecosystem in the waters near the power plant, while also helping to improve the income of local fishermen through increased future catches.

Chairman Bang Hak-soo said, “I am grateful for the Hanul Headquarters’ consistent efforts over the past 27 years to coexist with local fishermen,” adding, “I hope the released juveniles grow healthily and lead to stable income growth for the fishermen.”

Headquarters Director Lee Se-yong stated, “I hope that the fish and shellfish release projects we have continuously pursued will help replenish fish stocks in local waters and increase fishermen’s income,” adding, “We will continue to actively identify and promote mutual growth projects that provide tangible benefits to the local community.”
