경주시는 교육부가 최근 실시한 협약형 특성화고 지정 심사에서 경주정보고와 신라공고가 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다. 이번 심사에는 전국 12개 지역 24개 연합체가 참여했으며, 최종적으로 10개 지역 16개 학교가 협약형 특성화고로 지정됐다.
선정 결과 경주정보고는 마이스(MICE) 산업 분야, 신라공고는 인공지능(AI) 미래 모빌리티 분야 특성화고로 각각 지정돼 지역 전략산업과 연계한 교육과정을 운영하게 된다.
협약형 특성화고는 지방자치단체와 교육청, 학교, 기업 등 지역 구성원이 공동으로 참여해 산업 현장에 필요한 인재를 양성하고 청년들의 지역 정착을 지원하는 교육부 사업이다. 지역 경제와 교육을 연계해 지속 가능한 인재 육성 체계를 구축하는 데 목적이 있다.
선정된 학교에는 향후 5년간 최대 45억 원 규모의 특별교부금이 지원되며, 교육과정 개편과 교육환경 개선, 학교 혁신을 위한 다양한 행·재정적 지원도 함께 이뤄진다.
경주정보고는 경주가 보유한 풍부한 문화관광 자원과 마이스 산업 기반을 활용해 관광서비스와 문화콘텐츠 분야 전문인력 양성에 집중할 계획이다. 지역 관광산업 수요에 부합하는 실무 중심 교육을 통해 관련 분야 인재를 육성한다는 방침이다.
신라공고는 자동차 부품 산업과 미래차 산업 기반을 토대로 AI 미래 모빌리티 분야 전문기술 인력 양성에 나선다. 첨단 기술을 접목한 교육과정을 운영해 산업 현장에서 즉시 활용 가능한 실무형 인재를 배출할 예정이다.
경주시는 공모 준비 과정에서 지역 기업과 대학, 유관기관 등과 협력체계를 구축하며 두 학교의 사업 선정에 필요한 지원을 지속해 왔다. 이를 통해 지역 산업과 교육기관 간 연계를 강화하고 인재 양성 기반 마련에 힘써왔다.
시는 이번 사업 선정으로 학생들이 지역에서 전문교육을 받은 뒤 지역 기업으로 취업할 수 있는 경로가 확대되고, 기업 역시 산업 수요에 맞는 인재를 안정적으로 확보할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
아울러 교육과 취업, 정주가 연결되는 지역 인재 선순환 구조가 강화되면서 청년층의 지역 정착을 유도하고 지역 산업 경쟁력 향상에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 전망된다.
