경주시는 버스 도착 예정 시간과 운행 정보를 실시간으로 제공하는 버스정보안내기 39기를 추가 설치하는 사업을 추진한다고 11일 밝혔다.

이번 사업에는 총 3억 원의 예산이 투입되며, 신규 설치 36기와 노후 장비 교체 3기를 포함해 모두 39기의 안내기가 구축된다.

특히 태양광 에너지를 활용하는 친환경 버스정보안내기 15기가 처음 도입된다. 태양광형 장비는 별도의 전력 사용을 줄일 수 있어 운영 효율성을 높이는 동시에 탄소 배출 저감에도 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 이와 함께 LED 거치형 안내기 24기도 설치된다.

경주시는 지난 3월 현장 실태조사와 설치 대상지 선정을 완료했으며, 이달부터 본격적인 공사에 들어가 오는 9월까지 사업을 마무리할 계획이다.

사업이 완료되면 보다 많은 정류장에서 실시간 버스 운행 정보를 확인할 수 있게 돼 이용객들의 대기 불편이 줄어들고 대중교통 접근성도 향상될 것으로 전망된다.

경주시는 지난 2014년부터 버스정보시스템(BIS) 구축 사업을 지속적으로 추진해 왔다. 지난해까지 총 89억 원을 투입해 관련 인프라를 확충했으며, 현재 지역 내 버스정류소 1,325곳 가운데 405곳에 버스정보안내기를 설치해 운영 중이다. 이는 전체 정류소의 30.6% 수준이다.

이와 함께 카카오맵과 연계한 초정밀 버스정보시스템 구축, 스마트 승강장 조성, 디지털 안내시설 확대 등 다양한 사업을 통해 교통정보 서비스의 품질 향상에도 힘쓰고 있다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “버스정보안내기 확대 사업은 시민들이 보다 정확하고 편리하게 대중교통 정보를 이용할 수 있도록 하기 위한 것”이라며 “앞으로도 스마트 교통 인프라를 지속적으로 확충해 시민 중심의 교통 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
