경주시는 노후 상수관망을 정비하는 ‘제2차 지방상수도 현대화사업’을 본격 추진한다고 15일 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 경주시가 한국수자원공사에 위탁해 시행하며, 동진건설㈜이 시공을 맡아 진행한다.

시는 지난달 동천동 우선 추진 구간 공사를 시작했으며, 오는 2029년 12월까지 총 408억 원을 투입할 계획이다. 사업비는 국비 204억 원, 도비 61억 원, 시비 143억 원으로 마련된다.

주요 사업 내용은 동천동과 황성동, 용강동 일대에 설치된 노후 상수관망 91㎞를 교체하고, 누수 탐사 및 복구 작업을 병행하는 것이다. 이를 통해 상수도 공급 안정성을 높이고 물 손실을 줄인다는 방침이다.

우선 사업 대상지인 동천동에는 19억 원이 투입된다. 현재 관련 인허가와 행정절차를 모두 마친 상태로 공사가 진행 중이며, 내년 4월 준공을 목표로 하고 있다.

사업이 완료되면 유수율이 향상돼 수돗물 생산 비용 절감 효과가 기대된다. 또한 노후 관로에서 발생할 수 있는 녹물 문제와 누수로 인한 각종 민원도 감소할 것으로 전망된다.

다만 공사 구간 일부가 주거지역과 상업지역을 통과하는 만큼 도로 굴착에 따른 교통 불편과 소음, 비산먼지 발생이 예상된다.

이에 경주시는 차량 통행이 많은 구간과 상가 밀집 지역에는 야간 공사를 확대하고, 살수차 운영과 교통 유도 인력 배치 등을 통해 주민 불편을 최소화할 계획이다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “이번 지방상수도 현대화사업은 시민들에게 보다 안전하고 깨끗한 수돗물을 안정적으로 공급하기 위한 중요한 사업”이라며 “공사 기간 다소 불편이 발생할 수 있지만 시민들의 이해와 협조를 부탁드린다”고 말했다.

한편 경주시는 이번 사업을 통해 상수도 시설의 노후화를 개선하고 장기적으로는 물 공급 체계의 효율성과 안전성을 높여 시민 생활환경 개선에 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.
