올해 평해단오제는 ‘평해의 정을 단오로 잇다’를 주제로 오는 20일부터 21일까지 이틀간 평해읍 남대천 체육공원 일원에서 열린다. 행사는 울진문화원과 평해단오제추진위원회가 공동 주최·주관한다.
올해로 40회를 맞은 평해단오제는 지역 고유의 전통문화를 보존하고 세대 간 소통과 공동체 정신을 되새기는 축제로 자리매김해 왔다.
축제 첫날인 20일에는 제천의례를 시작으로 민속장기대회와 읍·면 대항 민속경기, 남창동 줄타기 공연 등이 진행된다. 이어 평해단오제의 대표 프로그램인 월송큰줄당기기가 펼쳐지며 주민들이 함께 참여하는 공동체 문화행사의 의미를 더할 예정이다.
오후 5시에 열리는 개막식에서는 설운도와 정서주의 축하공연이 마련돼 축제 분위기를 뜨겁게 달굴 것으로 기대된다.
둘째 날인 21일에는 평해 단오 씨름왕대회와 단오 노래자랑, 지역 예술인 공연 등이 이어진다. 특히 노래자랑 무대에는 김현정이 출연해 관람객들과 함께 축제의 흥을 나눌 예정이다.
행사 기간에는 다양한 체험 프로그램도 운영된다. 월송큰줄 전시를 비롯해 그네뛰기와 전통놀이 체험, 윷놀이 대회, 단오팔찌 만들기 등 가족 단위 방문객이 함께 즐길 수 있는 콘텐츠가 마련된다.
이와 함께 지역 농·특산물 판매장과 먹거리 부스도 운영돼 방문객들에게 풍성한 볼거리와 즐길거리를 제공할 계획이다.
특히 월송큰줄당기기는 평해단오제를 대표하는 상징 프로그램으로, 주민들이 힘을 모아 참여하는 과정 자체가 공동체 문화를 보여주는 전통 행사로 평가받고 있다.
울진군 관계자는 “평해단오제는 울진의 역사와 전통, 공동체 정신이 어우러진 대표 문화축제”라며 “군민과 관광객 모두가 안전하고 즐겁게 참여할 수 있도록 행사 준비와 운영에 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.

On the first day of the festival, the 20th, events will begin with a ritual for worshipping heaven, followed by a folk chess tournament, inter-town and inter-village folk games, and a tightrope walking performance by Namchang-dong. Content designed for family visitors to enjoy together is provided, including an exhibition of the Wolsong Great Tug, swing riding, traditional games, a Yutnori (traditional board game) competition, and Dano bracelet making.
