경주시는 지난 17일 경상북도와 함께 기획재정부를 방문해 APEC 정상회의 성과를 계승·발전시킬 주요 사업에 대한 국비 지원 필요성을 설명하고 정부 차원의 협조를 요청했다고 18일 밝혔다.

이번 방문은 정부의 내년도 예산안 편성이 진행되는 시기에 맞춰 지역의 중장기 발전 기반이 될 사업들을 국가 재정사업에 반영하기 위해 마련됐다.

이날 시는 기획재정부 행정외교예산과를 찾아 '(가칭) 경주APEC 외교문화원' 조성 계획을 설명하며 사업 추진을 위한 국비 지원을 건의했다. 이어 문화체육관광예산과를 방문해 국제 행사로 육성 중인 '세계경주포럼'의 지속적인 운영을 위한 정부 지원 방안도 요청했다.

경주APEC 외교문화원은 총사업비 380억원이 투입될 예정인 사업으로, 2025 APEC 정상회의의 성과를 체계적으로 보존하고 국제교류 및 공공외교 기능을 강화하기 위한 거점 공간으로 조성될 계획이다.

경주시는 외교문화원이 향후 APEC 관련 연구와 국제회의 개최, 회원국 간 문화교류 및 디지털 협력사업 등을 수행하는 중심 역할을 맡게 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

또 다른 핵심 사업인 세계경주포럼은 포용적 성장과 디지털 혁신, 문화창조산업 등 APEC 정상회의에서 도출된 주요 가치를 국제사회와 공유하는 플랫폼으로 추진된다.

시는 외교문화원과 세계경주포럼을 중심으로 APEC 정상회의의 성과를 일회성 행사에 머물지 않고 지속 가능한 지역 발전 자산으로 발전시켜 나간다는 방침이다.

On that day, the city visited the Administrative and Diplomatic Budget Division of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to explain plans for establishing the "(tentative name) Gyeongju APEC Diplomatic and Cultural Center" and requested state funding for the project. The Gyeongju APEC Diplomatic and Cultural Center is a project scheduled to receive a total investment of 38 billion won. It is planned to be established as a hub space designed to systematically preserve the achievements of the 2025 APEC Summit and strengthen functions related to international exchange and public diplomacy.

Gyeongju City expects the Diplomatic and Cultural Center to play a central role in conducting APEC-related research, hosting international conferences, facilitating cultural exchanges among member countries, and carrying out digital cooperation projects.
