의성군은 지난 18일 열린 ‘2026년 지역보건의료계획 성과대회’에서 제8기 지역보건의료계획 4차년도 평가 결과 우수 지자체 ‘우수’ 부문에 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

지역보건의료계획은 '지역보건법'에 따라 지방자치단체가 수립하는 중장기 보건의료 정책으로, 지역 주민의 건강 증진과 의료서비스 향상을 위한 방향을 담고 있다. 보건복지부는 매년 전국 지자체의 계획 추진 성과를 평가해 우수 사례를 선정하고 있으며, 제8기 계획은 2023년부터 2026년까지 추진되고 있다.

의성군은 ‘함께 누리는 건강, 함께 행복한 의성’을 비전으로 설정하고 공공의료서비스 강화, 지역사회 중심 통합건강관리, 건강돌봄체계 구축 등 3대 전략을 중심으로 다양한 보건정책을 추진해 왔다.

특히 의료 인프라가 부족한 농촌지역의 현실을 고려해 의료서비스 접근성 향상에 집중한 점이 높은 평가를 받았다. 군은 의료·돌봄 통합지원 시범사업에 참여해 의료와 복지 서비스를 연계하는 기반을 마련했으며, 보건소 중심의 장기요양 재택의료센터 시범사업도 운영했다.

민간 의료기관이 아닌 보건소가 중심이 돼 의료와 돌봄 서비스를 통합 제공한 점은 농촌형 공공보건 모델로서 차별성과 실효성을 인정받았다는 평가다.

이번 수상은 의료자원이 상대적으로 부족한 지역 여건 속에서도 공공보건 기능을 강화하고 촘촘한 건강안전망을 구축해 군민 중심의 보건의료 서비스를 제공해 온 노력의 결실로 풀이된다.

김주수 의성군수는 “지역 특성과 주민 건강 수요를 반영해 수립한 보건의료계획이 정책의 방향성과 실행력을 인정받은 의미 있는 성과”라며 “앞으로도 공공의료서비스를 확대하고 보건소 중심의 건강관리 체계를 강화해 군민 삶의 질 향상에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
