대구 동구는 오는 7월 1일부터 5일까지 평화시장 닭똥집 명물거리에서 치맥페스티벌을 개최한다고 25일 밝혔다. 

이번 축제는 대구치맥페스티벌과 같은 기간에 열리며, ‘대한민국 똥집연구소’를 슬로건으로 다양한 먹거리와 문화 공연, 체험 프로그램이 준비된다.

축제 기간에는 치맥가왕전, 치맥런웨이, 버스킹 공연, 지역 예술인 한마당 등 방문객이 직접 참여할 수 있는 다양한 프로그램이 운영된다. 상인과 주민, 관광객이 함께 어울릴 수 있는 거리 축제로 꾸며질 전망이다.

평화시장 닭똥집 명물거리는 1970년대에 자리 잡은 뒤 50여 년간 지역 식문화를 대표해온 명소로 꼽힌다. 동구는 이번 축제를 통해 골목 상권에 활력을 불어넣고, 지역 관광객 유치 효과를 높일 계획이다.

축제는 대구농축산식품발전회가 주최하며, 혁신도시 내 한국가스공사와 한국산업단지공단, 한국사학진흥재단, 중앙병역판정검사소 등 주요 공공기관이 행사 지원에 나선다.

김태운 동구청장 권한대행은 “50년 전통을 간직한 대구의 자랑 평화시장 닭똥집 골목에서 많은 시민과 관광객이 무더위를 잊고 축제를 마음껏 즐기길 바란다”며 “안전하고 즐거운 축제가 될 수 있도록 준비에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
