최 회장은 26일 서울 프레스센터에서 열린 '2026 한국을 빛낸 사회발전대상' 시상식에서 다문화가정과 외국인 주민을 위한 다양한 사회공헌 활동을 지속적으로 펼쳐온 점을 높이 평가받아 수상의 영예를 안았다.
최 회장은 그동안 다문화가정 지원과 외국인 주민의 지역사회 정착을 위한 봉사활동은 물론 한국어 교육, 문화교류 프로그램 운영, 지역사회 화합을 위한 다양한 사업을 추진하며 건강한 다문화 공동체 조성에 힘써왔다. 특히 서로 다른 문화에 대한 이해를 넓히고 상생과 공존의 가치를 확산하는 데 앞장서 왔다는 평가를 받고 있다.
한국다문화협회는 외국인 주민과 다문화가정의 권익 증진을 비롯해 한국어 교육, 문화체험, 상담 및 복지 지원, 지역사회 봉사활동 등 다양한 사업을 추진하며 사회통합과 공동체 발전을 위한 활동을 이어오고 있다.
최원용 회장은 수상 소감을 통해 "이번 수상은 저 개인에게 주어진 영광이 아니라 한국다문화협회 임직원과 회원, 그리고 함께해 준 다문화 가족 모두와 함께 받은 뜻깊은 상"이라며 "앞으로도 서로를 존중하고 배려하는 사회를 만들기 위해 더욱 책임감을 갖고 다문화가정과 외국인 주민을 위한 봉사와 나눔을 실천해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
이어 "문화적 다양성이 존중받는 사회가 곧 대한민국의 경쟁력"이라며 "앞으로도 다양한 교류와 지원사업을 통해 다문화 사회의 건강한 정착과 지역사회 통합에 기여할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 덧붙였다.
한편, '2026 한국을 빛낸 사회발전대상'은 각 분야에서 사회발전과 지역사회 공헌, 봉사활동 등을 통해 국가와 사회에 기여한 개인과 단체를 선정해 시상하는 행사로, 다양한 분야의 수상자들이 참석한 가운데 서울 프레스센터에서 개최됐다.
