한수원은 29일 전국 원자력발전소장이 참여한 가운데 ‘여름철 전력수급 대비 원전 안전 운영 회의’를 열고 각 발전소의 비상 대응체계와 주요 설비 상태를 집중 점검했다고 밝혔다. 이번 점검에서는 폭염과 태풍 등 하절기 자연재해에 대비한 설비 건전성 확보와 비상 대응체계의 실효성도 함께 확인됐다.
참석자들은 전력수요가 급증하는 시기를 앞두고 ‘안전 최우선’ 원칙 아래 원전 운영의 안정성을 강화하고, 이상 상황 발생 시 즉각 대응이 가능하도록 대응 체계를 점검했다.
이와 함께 김회천 사장은 월성원자력본부를 찾아 현장경영을 실시하고 여름철 재해 상황에 대비한 운영 현황을 직접 점검했다. 김 사장은 현장 직원들을 격려하며 무더위와 자연재해 등 복합적인 위험 요인에도 안정적인 설비 운영이 이뤄질 수 있도록 철저한 대비를 당부했다.
김 사장은 “글로벌 에너지 시장의 변동성과 인공지능 산업 확대로 전력 수요가 증가하는 가운데 폭염까지 예상되면서 안정적인 전력 공급의 중요성이 어느 때보다 커지고 있다”며 “철저한 원전 안전 운영을 통해 국민이 안심할 수 있는 전력 수급에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
