고령군은 지난 6월 26일 합가리 토기가마유적 현장에서 3차 발굴조사 결과를 설명하는 공개 행사를 개최했다고 밝혔다. 이번 행사에는 지역 주민과 학계 전문가 등 50여 명이 참석해 발굴 성과를 직접 확인했다.

합가리 토기가마유적은 대가야 시대 최대 규모의 토기 생산시설로 알려져 있으며, 지금까지 토기가마 6기와 폐기장 8개소 등 다수의 생산 관련 유구가 확인된 바 있다. 이번 조사는 1차(2024년), 2차(2025년)에 이은 후속 조사로 국가유산청 지원을 받아 추진된 역사문화권 중요유적 발굴사업의 일환이다.

특히 해당 유적을 중심으로 총 134억 원 규모의 역사문화권 정비사업이 예정돼 있어 이번 발굴의 의미가 더욱 크다는 평가다.

이번 3차 조사에서는 비교적 보존 상태가 양호한 토기가마 4~6호가 추가로 확인됐으며, 주변 폐기장에서도 다량의 토기편이 출토됐다. 가마 내부에서는 완형에 가까운 토기까지 발견돼 당시 생산 방식과 조업 시기 등 삼국시대 토기 제작 기술을 복원하는 핵심 자료가 될 것으로 기대된다.

발굴조사를 수행한 세종문화유산재단은 현장 설명을 통해 유적의 규모와 분포, 구조적 완전성 측면에서 가야권역 내 대표적인 대규모 생산유적으로 평가된다고 밝혔다.

고령군은 향후 지속적인 발굴과 학술 연구를 통해 대가야 역사문화 복원 사업을 확대하고, 합가리 토기가마유적을 중심으로 한 역사문화권 정비사업을 추진해 고령을 대가야 역사문화도시로 발전시켜 나간다는 계획이다.

Goryeong County has reaffirmed the academic value of the Hapgari Pottery Kiln Site, which is recognized as a representative pottery production site of the Daegaya period, by unveiling the results of its third excavation survey.

Goryeong County announced that it held a public event on June 26 at the site of the Hapgari Pottery Kiln Site to explain the results of the third excavation survey. Approximately 50 people, including local residents and academic experts, attended the event to verify the excavation findings firsthand.

The Hapgari Pottery Kiln Site is known as the largest pottery production facility of the Daegaya era, and numerous production-related remains, including six pottery kilns and eight waste disposal sites, have been identified to date. This survey is a follow-up to the 1st (2024) and 2nd (2025) surveys and is part of the Excavation Project for Important Historic and Cultural Sites in the Historical and Cultural Zone, conducted with support from the National Heritage Administration. The significance of this excavation is considered even greater, particularly given that a historical and cultural zone development project worth a total of 13.4 billion won is scheduled to take place centered around the site.

During this third survey, pottery kilns No. 4 through 6, which are in relatively good condition, were additionally identified, and a large quantity of pottery fragments were excavated from the surrounding waste disposal area. Pottery that was nearly complete was discovered inside the kilns, raising expectations that it will serve as key data for reconstructing the pottery manufacturing techniques of the Three Kingdoms period, including production methods and the operating period.

The Sejong Cultural Heritage Foundation, which conducted the excavation, stated in an on-site explanation that the site is evaluated as a representative large-scale production site within the Gaya region in terms of its scale, distribution, and structural integrity.

Goryeong County plans to expand the restoration of Daegaya history and culture through continuous excavation and academic research, and to develop Goryeong into a Daegaya historical and cultural city by promoting a historical and cultural zone development project centered on the Hapgari Pottery Kiln Site.
