Goryeong County Selected for Two New Village Project Districts… Secures 4 Billion Won Including State Funding
Goryeong County has secured a total of 4 billion won in project funding after being finally selected for a national public competition project aimed at improving the living environment of residents in vulnerable areas.
The county announced that two villages—Sangyong-ri (Yonggi) in Seongsan-myeon and Osa 2-ri in Gaejin-myeon—were finally selected in the "2027 Project to Improve Living Conditions in Vulnerable Areas (New Village Project)," jointly promoted by the Presidential Committee on Local Government and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
140 sites nationwide applied for this competition, and Goryeong County achieved the feat of having both districts selected, recording a 100% selection rate. The secured project budget amounts to a total of 4 billion won, including 2.6 billion won in state funding.
The New Village Project is a national support initiative designed to improve the quality of life for residents by comprehensively improving living environments in aging residential areas, disaster-prone regions, and vulnerable areas lacking infrastructure. In particular, the project is evaluated as having a high impact on residents because it includes support for private facilities, such as home renovations.
The Sangyong-ri (Yonggi) village in Seongsan-myeon, which was selected this time, is home to a total of 42 households and 60 residents. It is classified as an area with poor living conditions, with 67.6% of houses over 30 years old and 62.0% of houses featuring slate roofs.
Osa 2-ri village in Gaejin-myeon is also home to 52 households and 75 residents. It is considered an area in urgent need of improving its living environment, with 77.6% of houses over 30 years old and 15.5% of vacant houses.
The project will be implemented in stages over four years starting in 2027 for both villages. Overall living conditions are expected to improve through the maintenance of infrastructure for living, sanitation, and safety, as well as the improvement of the residential environment. Project funding will be allocated as follows: 1.95 billion won for Sangyong-ri (Yonggi) and 1.97 billion won for Osa 2-ri. Goryeong County plans to use this project to not only improve aging residential areas but also to revitalize village communities and expand living infrastructure.
Goryeong County Governor Lee Nam-cheol stated, “This selection is the result of both administrative efforts and the active participation of residents,” adding, “We will do our utmost to improve living conditions, enhance the quality of life for residents, and restore the local community through the Saetteul Village Project.”
