고령군은 해당 도시브랜드가 ‘미국 굿디자인 어워드 2025’ 그래픽디자인 부문 본상에 선정됐다고 30일 밝혔다.

굿디자인 어워드는 1950년부터 이어져 온 세계적 권위의 디자인상으로, 산업·제품·그래픽 등 다양한 분야에서 창의성과 혁신성을 갖춘 디자인을 선정해 시상하고 있다.

올해 공모에는 55개국에서 1,100여 점의 작품이 출품됐으며, 치열한 경쟁 끝에 고령군 도시브랜드가 그래픽디자인 분야에서 우수한 평가를 받으며 수상의 영예를 안았다.

‘가야가 빚은 고령’은 지산동 고분군의 독특한 형상을 모티브로, 가야 문화가 빚어낸 도시라는 의미를 시각적으로 구현한 것이 특징이다. 지역의 역사성과 정체성을 현대적으로 해석해 도시 브랜드로 확장한 점이 높은 평가를 받았다.

이번 수상으로 해당 브랜드는 시카고 아테네움 뮤지엄의 영구 디자인 컬렉션에 등재되며, 2025~2026 굿디자인 어워드 공식 도록에도 수록될 예정이다.

고령군 도시브랜드는 앞서 2024년 한국색채대상 최우수상과 독일 디자인 어워드(GDA) 수상 등 국내외 디자인 공모전에서 연이어 성과를 거두며 브랜드 경쟁력을 입증해 왔다.

이남철 고령군수는 “고령군 도시브랜드는 독창성과 상징성, 혁신성을 고루 갖춘 디자인으로 국제적으로도 높은 평가를 받고 있다”며 “앞으로 공공시설과 도시공간, 홍보 매체 등 다양한 분야에 적극 활용해 세계유산도시로서의 브랜드 가치를 더욱 높여 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Goryeong County’s City Brand ‘Created by Gaya Goryeong’ Wins Main Award at U.S. Good Design Awards 2025

Goryeong County’s city brand (BI), ‘Created by Gaya Goryeong,’ has won an international design award, receiving recognition for its excellence at a global design competition.

Goryeong County announced on the 30th that its city brand was selected for the main award in the graphic design category at the ‘Good Design Awards 2025’ in the United States.

The Good Design Awards is a globally prestigious design award that has been held since 1950, selecting and awarding designs that possess creativity and innovation across various fields, including industry, product, and graphic design.

This year’s competition received over 1,100 entries from 55 countries. After fierce competition, Goryeong County’s city brand was honored with the award, receiving excellent evaluations in the graphic design field.

‘Created by Gaya Goryeong’ is characterized by its visual realization of the meaning of a city created by Gaya culture, using the unique shape of the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs as a motif. The project received high praise for its modern interpretation of the region's history and identity, which was expanded into a city brand.

With this award, the brand will be listed in the permanent design collection of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum and is scheduled to be included in the official catalog for the 2025–2026 Good Design Awards.

The Goryeong-gun city brand has proven its competitiveness by achieving consecutive successes in domestic and international design competitions, including the Grand Prize at the 2024 Korea Color Awards and the German Design Award (GDA).

Goryeong County Governor Lee Nam-cheol stated, "The Goryeong-gun city brand is highly regarded internationally for its design that possesses originality, symbolism, and innovation," adding, "We will actively utilize it across various fields, such as public facilities, urban spaces, and promotional media, to further enhance the brand value as a World Heritage City."
