구미시는 3일 시청에서 자화전자㈜, 경상북도와 첨단 광학계 구동·제어 제품 생산시설 구축을 위한 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다고 밝혔다.
협약식에는 황명석 경상북도 행정부지사, 김장호 구미시장, 구자근 국회의원, 김찬용 자화전자 대표이사를 비롯한 경제계 관계자들이 참석해 투자사업의 원활한 추진과 지역경제 활성화를 위한 협력 의지를 확인했다.
협약에 따라 자화전자는 구미국가1산업단지 남구미로 29 일원에 총 5천억 원을 들여 스마트폰 등 전자기기에 적용되는 광학계 구동·제어 제품 생산공장을 신설한다. 사업은 2029년까지 추진되며 400명의 신규 고용도 함께 이뤄질 예정이다.
자화전자는 자동초점(AF), 광학식 손떨림 보정(OIS), 폴디드 줌(Folded Zoom)용 카메라 액추에이터를 주력으로 생산하는 기업이다. 인공지능(AI) 기능 확대와 프리미엄 스마트폰 카메라 성능 경쟁이 심화되는 시장에서 글로벌 제조사에 핵심 부품을 공급하며 경쟁력을 확보하고 있다.

이번 투자까지 포함하면 자화전자의 구미지역 누적 투자 규모는 약 1조 원, 누적 고용 창출은 1천400명을 넘어선다. 구미시는 지속적인 기업 투자가 지역 제조업 경쟁력 강화는 물론 협력업체와 소상공인을 포함한 연관 산업의 성장, 양질의 일자리 확대 등 지역경제 전반에 긍정적인 파급효과를 가져올 것으로 기대하고 있다.
또한 지역 대학과의 산학협력을 통한 전문인력 양성과 지역 인재의 정착에도 도움이 될 것으로 전망했다.
