영덕군은 오는 20일부터 29일까지 부산 벡스코(BEXCO)에서 개최되는 '근현대건축유산 특별전'에서 영해장터거리 근대역사문화공간을 주제로 한 전시가 마련된다고 밝혔다.

이번 특별전은 국가유산청이 주최하고 도코모모코리아와 구가도시건축이 공동 주관한다. 영덕군과 국가유산기능인협회가 후원하며, 해방 이후 전쟁과 산업화, 민주화 등 한국 근현대사의 흐름 속에서 형성된 건축유산을 다섯 개 분야로 나눠 조명한다.

영해장터거리 근대역사문화공간은 전시의 두 번째 주제로 소개된다. 영해읍성의 역사와 지역의 자생적 근대화 과정, 3·18 만세운동의 역사적 현장을 비롯해 영해버스터미널과 양조장 등 근대 건축물에 담긴 지역민들의 삶을 다양한 전시기법으로 풀어낼 예정이다.

관람객들은 건축 모형과 영상, 설계도면, 사진 자료 등을 통해 영해장터거리의 역사와 공간적 가치를 입체적으로 살펴볼 수 있다.

전시장에서는 '영해장터거리 근대역사문화공간'과 '부산항 제1부두'를 주제로 진행된 '2026 근현대건축 활성화 공모전' 수상작도 함께 선보인다. 전국 대학(원)생들이 참여한 작품을 통해 청년들의 시각으로 재해석한 지역 건축유산과 미래 활용 방안도 확인할 수 있다.

조주홍 영덕군수는 "이번 특별전은 영해장터거리가 지닌 역사성과 지역민이 만들어온 자생적인 근대화의 발자취를 널리 알리는 의미 있는 자리"라며 "앞으로도 지역의 역사와 문화유산을 체계적으로 보존하고 다양한 콘텐츠로 활용할 수 있도록 노력하겠다"고 말했다.

한편 특별전은 전시 기간 동안 매일 오전 10시부터 오후 6시까지 무료로 운영된다. 전시 해설 일정과 세부 프로그램은 도코모모코리아 누리집에서 확인할 수 있다.

The modern historical and cultural space of Yeonghae Market Street in Yeongdeok-gun will introduce the region’s modern cultural heritage and historical significance to the nation through a special exhibition held in Busan.

Yeongdeok-gun announced that an exhibition themed around the modern historical and cultural space of Yeonghae Market Street will be held at BEXCO in Busan from the 20th to the 29th as part of the 'Special Exhibition on Modern and Contemporary Architectural Heritage.'

This special exhibition is hosted by the National Heritage Administration and co-organized by DOCOMOMO Korea and Kuga Urban Architecture. Sponsored by Yeongdeok-gun and the National Heritage Craftsmen Association, it highlights architectural heritage formed within the flow of modern and contemporary Korean history—including post-liberation war, industrialization, and democratization—divided into five categories.

The modern historical and cultural space of Yeonghae Market Street will be introduced as the second theme of the exhibition. Using various exhibition techniques, the exhibition plans to explore the history of Yeonghae Fortress, the region's process of self-generated modernization, the historical site of the March 18 Independence Movement, and the lives of local residents embedded in modern architectural structures such as the Yeonghae Bus Terminal and the Brewery.

Visitors can examine the history and spatial value of Yeonghae Market Street in a three-dimensional manner through architectural models, videos, blueprints, and photographic materials.

The exhibition also showcases the winning entries from the "2026 Modern and Contemporary Architecture Revitalization Contest," which focused on the themes of the "Yeonghae Market Street Modern Historical and Cultural Space" and "Busan Port Pier 1." Through works submitted by university and graduate students nationwide, visitors can discover local architectural heritage reinterpreted from a youthful perspective, as well as plans for its future utilization.

Yeongdeok County Governor Jo Joo-hong stated, "This special exhibition is a meaningful occasion to widely publicize the historical significance of Yeonghae Market Street and the traces of self-generated modernization created by local residents," adding, "We will continue our efforts to systematically preserve the region's history and cultural heritage and utilize them through diverse content."
