한국수력원자력(이하 한수원)은 한국전기안전공사(KESCO)와 서울 방사선보건원에서 ‘발전설비 안전성 확보 및 에너지 분야 기술협력을 위한 상호협력 협약’을 체결했다고 9일 밝혔다. 이날 서명식에는 김회천 한수원 사장과 남화영 전기안전공사 사장을 포함해 두 기관의 주요 보직자들이 배석했다.

이번 파트너십 구축은 전력 수요의 변동 폭이 커지고 기후변화 탓에 발전시설 관리의 중요성이 증대되는 시점에서 이뤄졌다. 한수원의 대규모 시설 운영 경험과 전기안전공사의 독보적인 기술력을 결합해, 발전소 내부 주요 전기 장비의 돌발 고장을 선제적으로 차단하고 새롭게 추진되는 발전소 건설 프로젝트의 신뢰도까지 끌어올리겠다는 구상이다.

이에 따라 양 기관은 앞으로 다각적인 실무 협력을 전개한다. 주요 협력 분야는 발전설비의 정밀 안전진단과 결함 원인 분석 기법 공동 개발, 진단 시스템 고도화 및 현장 실증 테스트, 건설 현장의 안전문화 정착을 위한 전문 인력 교류 등이다.

김회천 한수원 사장은 “전력 공급의 중추를 맡은 한수원의 인프라와 전기안전공사의 정밀 기술이 결합하면 상당한 시너지 효과가 발생할 것”이라며 “발전설비의 무결점 운영을 바탕으로 온 국민이 안심할 수 있는 전력 생산 환경을 다지는 데 총력을 기울이겠다”고 강조했다.
