【브레이크뉴스 고령】이성현 기자=고령군이 지역을 대표하는 전통농악인 우곡 새가지농악의 보존과 전승 기반을 강화하기 위해 읍·면 풍물단이 함께하는 워크숍을 마련했다.

군은 지난 5일 전북 임실 필봉농악전수관에서 '2026 새가지농악 워크숍'을 열고 지역 전통농악의 계승과 풍물단 역량 강화를 위한 프로그램을 진행했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사에는 고령지역 8개 읍·면 풍물단이 참가했다. 특히 우곡면 풍물단은 최천조 단장을 비롯한 30여 명의 단원이 직접 새가지농악을 선보이며 전통 가락과 공연 문화를 소개했다. 참가자들은 시연을 통해 새가지농악의 역사와 예술적 가치, 고유한 음악적 특징을 이해하는 시간을 가졌다.

이어 참가자들은 임실필봉농악보존회가 주관한 '2026 전통예술 지역브랜드 상설공연 「춤추는 상쇠」'를 관람하며 전통농악의 예술성과 공연 기법을 살펴봤다. 또 지역 풍물단 운영 사례와 활동 경험을 공유하며 향후 풍물단 활성화 방안과 전통문화 계승 방향에 대해서도 의견을 나눴다.

이번 워크숍은 오는 9월 19일 열리는 대가야풍물대축제를 앞두고 풍물단원들의 참여 의지를 높이는 동시에 우곡 새가지농악에 대한 관심을 확대하고 전승 기반을 다지는 계기가 된 것으로 평가된다.

정이환 고령문화원장은 "새가지농악이 지역의 대표 문화유산으로 이어질 수 있도록 교육과 교류 프로그램을 지속적으로 마련해 전승 기반을 더욱 강화해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

이남철 고령군수는 "단원 고령화와 인력 부족 등 어려운 여건 속에서도 지역 전통문화를 지켜온 읍·면 풍물단에 감사드린다"며 "앞으로도 새가지농악을 비롯한 전통문화의 가치를 널리 알리고 계승할 수 있도록 다양한 지원을 이어가겠다"고 밝혔다.

Goryeong County organized a workshop bringing together pungmul troupes from its towns and townships to strengthen the foundation for the preservation and transmission of Ugok Saegaji Nongak, the region's representative traditional folk music.

The county announced that it held the "2026 Saegaji Nongak Workshop" on the 5th at the Pilbong Nongak Training Center in Imsil, Jeonbuk, conducting programs aimed at the succession of local traditional folk music and the enhancement of pungmul troupe capabilities.

Pungmul troupes from eight towns and townships in the Goryeong region participated in the event. In particular, the Ugok-myeon Pungmul Troupe, led by Director Choi Cheon-jo and consisting of approximately 30 members, personally showcased Saegaji Nongak, introducing traditional melodies and performance culture. Through the demonstration, participants had the opportunity to understand the history, artistic value, and unique musical characteristics of Saegaji Nongak.

Following this, the participants watched the "2026 Traditional Arts Regional Brand Permanent Performance: The Dancing Sangsoe," organized by the Imsil Pilbong Nongak Preservation Society, examining the artistry and performance techniques of traditional Nongak. They also shared case studies and experiences regarding the operation of local Pungmul troupes, exchanging opinions on future strategies for revitalizing these groups and the direction of inheriting traditional culture.

This workshop is evaluated as an opportunity to boost the commitment of Pungmul troupe members ahead of the Daegaya Pungmul Festival to be held on September 19, while simultaneously expanding interest in Ugok Saegaji Nongak and solidifying the foundation for its transmission.

Jeong Yi-hwan, Director of the Goryeong Cultural Center, stated, "We will continue to organize educational and exchange programs to further strengthen the foundation for transmission, ensuring that Saegaji Nongak remains a representative cultural heritage of the region." Goryeong County Governor Lee Nam-cheol stated, "I thank the town and village pungmul troupes for preserving local traditional culture despite difficult conditions such as the aging of members and a shortage of manpower," adding, "We will continue to provide various support to widely promote and pass on the value of traditional culture, including Saegaji Nongak."
