지난 1982년 공직에 입문해 40여 년간 행정 경험을 쌓아온 황 회장은 체육지원과장, 홍보담당관, 도시해양국장 등을 역임하며 행정과 체육 현장을 두루 경험했다. 공직생활 중에도 포항시축구협회 수석부회장과 경북축구협회 이사를 맡아 지역 축구 발전에 힘써왔으며, 퇴직 후에는 포항시체육회 상임부회장을 맡아 지역 체육계의 소통과 화합을 이끌었다.

21일, 새로운 임기를 시작한 황 회장을 만나 앞으로의 운영 방향과 포항 축구의 미래 비전을 들어봤다.

-포항시축구협회장에 선출된 소감은.

"무거운 책임감을 먼저 느낍니다. 포항 축구는 전국적으로도 오랜 역사와 전통을 가진 도시의 자산입니다. 저를 믿고 선택해 주신 축구인들의 기대에 부응할 수 있도록 협회를 더욱 투명하고 화합하는 조직으로 만들겠습니다."

-협회 운영에서 가장 중점을 둘 부분은 무엇인가요.

"무엇보다 소통입니다. 협회는 특정인이 아니라 회원 모두의 조직입니다. 다양한 의견을 충분히 듣고 함께 결정하는 문화를 만들겠습니다. 갈등보다는 화합을, 경쟁보다는 상생을 우선하는 협회가 되어야 합니다."

-행정 경험이 협회 운영에 어떤 도움이 될 것으로 보십니까.

"40여 년간 행정을 하면서 조직 운영과 예산, 정책 추진 등을 경험했습니다. 특히 체육지원과장으로 근무하며 생활체육과 엘리트 체육의 현실을 가까이에서 접했습니다. 행정 경험을 바탕으로 공공기관과의 협력도 강화하고 지역 축구 발전에 필요한 지원을 이끌어내겠습니다."

-포항 축구 발전을 위한 핵심 과제는 무엇이라고 생각하십니까.

"유소년 축구와 생활체육, 엘리트 축구가 균형 있게 성장해야 합니다. 어느 한 분야만 발전해서는 건강한 축구 생태계를 만들 수 없습니다. 꿈나무들이 좋은 환경에서 성장하고, 생활체육 동호인들도 마음껏 운동할 수 있도록 기반을 확대하는 데 힘쓰겠습니다."

-포항은 축구 인프라가 잘 갖춰진 도시라는 평가를 받고 있습니다.

"포항스틸러스와 포항제철중·고는 대한민국 축구를 대표하는 소중한 자산입니다. 이들과 긴밀하게 협력해 지역 축구의 경쟁력을 더욱 높이겠습니다. 프로와 학교, 협회, 생활체육이 서로 연결되는 시스템을 만들어 포항 축구의 강점을 더욱 키워 나가겠습니다."

-시민들에게 어떤 축구 문화를 만들고 싶습니까.

"축구는 선수들만의 스포츠가 아니라 시민 모두가 함께 즐기는 문화입니다. 가족이 함께 경기장을 찾고, 아이들이 축구를 통해 꿈을 키울 수 있는 환경을 만드는 것이 중요합니다. 시민과 함께 호흡하는 축구협회를 만들겠습니다."

- What do you consider to be the key tasks for the development of football in Pohang?

"Youth soccer, recreational sports, and elite soccer must grow in a balanced manner. We cannot create a healthy soccer ecosystem if only one sector develops. I will strive to expand the foundation so that aspiring young players can grow in a good environment and recreational sports enthusiasts can exercise to their heart's content."

- Pohang is recognized as a city with well-established soccer infrastructure.

"Pohang Steelers and Pohang Jecheol Middle and High School are valuable assets representing Korean soccer. I will work closely with them to further enhance the competitiveness of local soccer. I will build a system where professional teams, schools, the association, and recreational sports are interconnected to further strengthen the strengths of Pohang soccer."

- What kind of soccer culture do you want to create for the citizens?

"Soccer is not just a sport for players, but a culture that all citizens can enjoy together. It is important to create an environment where families visit stadiums together and children can nurture their dreams through soccer. I will build a soccer association that breathes together with the citizens."

- Finally, do you have any message you would like to convey to the soccer community?

The future of Pohang football cannot be built by the Association alone. Greater development is possible only when everyone in the football community trusts one another and joins forces. I will always listen to the voices from the field with an open mind. Based on harmony and communication, I will do my utmost to help Pohang football take another leap forward.
