경주시는 29일 경북도청 본청 1층 K창에서 열린 ‘2025년 APEC 정상회의 백서 및 화보집 발간 기념회’에 참석해 성공 개최의 의미를 되새기고 향후 발전 방향을 공유했다고 밝혔다.

기념회에는 이철우 경북도지사와 주낙영 경주시장, 김석기 국회의원, 임활 경주시의회 의장, 김희수 경북도의회 의장을 비롯해 정상회의 준비와 운영에 참여한 유공자 및 관계자 등 30여 명이 참석했다.

행사는 APEC 관련 사진전 관람을 시작으로 추진 경과 보고, 기념사와 축사, 백서 전달식, 기념촬영 순으로 진행됐다.

이번에 발간된 백서와 화보집은 2021년 7월 정상회의 유치 선언 이후 개최도시 선정, 행사 준비, 운영, 사후 성과까지 약 4년 4개월간의 과정을 정리한 공식 기록물이다.

백서에는 유치 활동과 범시민 참여 운동, 기반시설 조성, 정상회의 운영 과정, 분야별 성과와 향후 과제 등이 체계적으로 담겼으며, 화보집에는 정상회의 주요 장면과 국제행사 현장, 세계 속 경주의 모습, 시민과 자원봉사자들의 활동 등이 사진으로 수록됐다.

특히 이번 기록물은 경상북도와 경주시는 물론 국회, 지방의회, 범시민추진위원회, 유관기관, 시민들이 함께 만들어낸 공동의 성과를 집약했다는 점에서 의미를 더했다.

경주시는 APEC 성공 개최의 배경으로 85일 동안 146만여 명이 참여한 100만 서명운동과 시민들의 적극적인 참여, 자원봉사자, 숙박·외식업계, 운수업 종사자, 경찰·소방·군 장병 등 다양한 분야 관계자들의 협력을 꼽았다.

시는 이번 성과를 바탕으로 세계경주포럼 정례화, 경주 APEC 외교문화원 조성, 보문관광단지 대규모 리노베이션, 경주 글로벌 CEO 서밋 창설 등 이른바 ‘포스트 APEC’ 핵심사업을 본격 추진해 국제도시 경쟁력을 지속적으로 강화한다는 계획이다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “백서와 화보집은 APEC 유치부터 성공적인 개최까지 시민 모두가 함께 만들어낸 소중한 기록”이라며 “국제행사 운영 경험과 높아진 도시 위상을 지역경제 활성화와 미래 성장으로 연결해 시민들이 체감할 수 있는 성과를 만들어가겠다”고 말했다.

Gyeongju City announced that it attended the "Commemoration Ceremony for the Publication of the 2025 APEC Summit White Paper and Photo Album," held on the 29th at the K-Window on the first floor of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office, to reflect on the significance of the successful hosting and share future development directions.

Approximately 30 people attended the ceremony, including Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Gyeongju Mayor Ju Nak-young, National Assembly Member Kim Seok-gi, Gyeongju City Council Chairman Im Hwal, Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Chairman Kim Hee-su, as well as distinguished contributors and officials who participated in the preparation and operation of the summit.

The pictorial book features photographs of key moments from the summit, international event venues, Gyeongju's presence on the world stage, and the activities of citizens and volunteers.

In particular, these records hold added significance as they encapsulate the collective achievements created jointly by Gyeongsangbuk-do Province and Gyeongju City, as well as the National Assembly, local councils, the City-wide Promotion Committee, relevant agencies, and citizens.

Gyeongju City cited the "One Million Signature Campaign," in which over 1.46 million people participated over 85 days, the active participation of citizens, and the cooperation of stakeholders from various fields—including volunteers, the accommodation and food service industries, transportation workers, and police, firefighters, and military personnel—as the background for the successful hosting of APEC. Based on this achievement, the city plans to continuously strengthen its competitiveness as an international city by fully pursuing key "post-APEC" projects, such as regularizing the World Gyeongju Forum, establishing the Gyeongju APEC Diplomatic and Cultural Center, renovating the Bomun Tourist Complex on a large scale, and founding the Gyeongju Global CEO Summit.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young stated, "The white paper and pictorial book are valuable records created together by all citizens, from the bid to the successful hosting of APEC." He added, "We will connect our experience in operating international events and the city's elevated status to the revitalization of the local economy and future growth, creating tangible results that citizens can experience."
