경주시는 최근 두 달간 지역 강수량이 평년의 28.3% 수준에 머물렀으며, 지난 3일 기준 지역 농업용 저수지 평균 저수율도 41.0%로 예년 평균인 70%를 크게 밑돌고 있다고 밝혔다. 강수 부족이 장기화되면서 일부 농경지에서는 용수 부족에 따른 피해 우려가 커지고 있는 상황이다.

이에 시는 읍·면·동과 관계기관이 협력해 농업용수 부족 지역을 수시로 점검하고 있다. 또한 농업인과 이·통장의 의견을 반영해 지역별 여건에 맞는 용수 확보 사업을 추진하는 등 현장 중심의 대응 체계를 운영하고 있다.

예비비를 활용한 긴급 사업도 본격 추진된다. 시는 지역 내 151개 지구를 대상으로 하상굴착 173곳, 가물막이 설치 4곳, 들샘 개발 7곳, 간이양수장 설치 28곳을 추진하고 있으며, 양수장비 89대를 지원하는 한편 응급급수와 기타 긴급 대응 사업 115건도 함께 시행하고 있다.

추가적인 용수 확보를 위해 관정 개발 11곳도 순차적으로 추진할 계획이다.

이와 함께 한국농어촌공사 경주지사에도 예비비를 지원해 현곡면 남사지, 안강읍 하곡지, 문무대왕면 송전지, 강동면 왕신지 등 4개 저수지에 다단양수장을 설치하는 등 안정적인 농업용수 공급 기반 마련에도 힘을 쏟고 있다.

경주시는 앞으로도 강수량과 저수율, 농경지의 가뭄 상황을 지속적으로 모니터링하면서 가뭄이 해소될 때까지 필요한 인력과 장비, 예산을 신속히 투입해 농작물 피해를 줄인다는 방침이다.
