포항시는 6일 포스텍 체인지업그라운드에서 동아일보, 채널A와 함께 ‘2026 K-배터리 청소년 아카데미’ 개회식을 열고 이틀간의 교육 일정을 시작했다고 밝혔다.

올해로 3회째를 맞은 이번 아카데미는 전국 청소년들이 이차전지 기술과 산업을 쉽게 이해하고 관련 분야 진로를 탐색할 수 있도록 기획된 과학 체험 프로그램이다.

행사는 6일부터 7일까지 진행되며 배터리 기초 교육을 비롯해 이차전지 소재와 기술을 주제로 한 전문가 강연, 포항가속기연구소 현장 견학, 배터리 충·방전 원리를 활용한 로봇 키트 제작 실습 등 이론과 체험을 결합한 다양한 교육 과정으로 운영된다.

올해는 본행사에 앞서 온라인 사전 교육도 함께 실시했다. 참가 학생들은 글로벌 배터리 산업의 변화와 인공지능(AI) 융합 기술 등 최신 산업 동향을 미리 학습한 뒤 현장 프로그램에 참여해 교육 효과를 높였다.

현장 강연에서는 과학 콘텐츠 크리에이터 '안될과학'의 항성이 'AI 시대, 배터리가 세상을 지배한다'를 주제로 배터리 산업의 미래를 소개한다. 이어 홍지현 교수는 전기자동차와 스마트폰에 활용되는 배터리 기술과 산업적 활용 가치에 대해 설명할 예정이다.

참가 학생들은 차세대 전극 소재와 배터리 기본 원리를 배우는 전문 강의를 수강한 뒤 포항가속기연구소를 찾아 고체전해질 연구 현장을 둘러본다. 또한 배터리 충·방전 원리를 응용한 DIY 교구 제작 실습에도 참여하며 기술 원리를 직접 체험하게 된다.

포항시는 포스텍과 포항가속기연구소, RIST, 이차전지종합관리센터 등 연구기관을 비롯해 지역 대학과 마이스터고, 특성화고를 연계한 이차전지 인재 양성 기반을 구축하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 연구개발부터 산업 현장까지 이어지는 교육 체계를 강화하며 미래 배터리 산업을 이끌 전문 인력 육성에 힘을 쏟고 있다.

박용선 포항시장은 "첨단산업 경쟁력은 미래 세대의 과학기술 역량에서 시작된다"며 "청소년들이 포항의 우수한 연구 인프라를 직접 경험하고 미래 배터리 산업에 대한 꿈을 키울 수 있도록 교육 기반을 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

Pohang City announced that it held the opening ceremony for the ‘2026 K-Battery Youth Academy’ at POSTECH Change-Up Ground on the 6th, in collaboration with the Dong-A Ilbo and Channel A, marking the start of a two-day educational schedule.

Now in its third year, this academy is a science experience program designed to help youth across the country easily understand secondary battery technology and industry and explore career paths in related fields.

The event runs from the 6th to the 7th and features a diverse curriculum combining theory and experience, including basic battery education, expert lectures on secondary battery materials and technology, field trips to the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, and hands-on practice in building robot kits utilizing battery charging and discharging principles. This year, online preliminary training was conducted in conjunction with the main event. Participating students enhanced the effectiveness of the education by learning about the latest industry trends, such as changes in the global battery industry and AI convergence technologies, before participating in the on-site program.

During the on-site lecture, Sung-seong of the science content creator 'Andwael Science' will introduce the future of the battery industry under the theme "The AI ​​Era: Batteries Rule the World." Following this, Professor Hong Ji-hyun is scheduled to explain battery technologies used in electric vehicles and smartphones, as well as their industrial application value.

Pohang City is establishing a foundation for cultivating talent in secondary batteries by linking research institutions such as POSTECH, the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, RIST, and the Secondary Battery Management Center with local universities, Meister High Schools, and specialized high schools. Based on this, efforts are being focused on fostering specialized personnel to lead the future battery industry by strengthening the education system that extends from research and development to industrial sites.
