경주시는 10일 시청 대외협력실에서 대일공업㈜과 506억원 규모의 국내복귀 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이날 협약식에는 주낙영 경주시장과 양금희 경북도 경제부지사, 문상인 대일공업 대표이사 등이 참석했다.

대일공업은 이번 협약에 따라 베트남 생산라인을 국내로 이전하고 내남면 명계3일반산업단지에 자동차 시트용 스틸프레임 생산공장을 새롭게 건립할 예정이다. 경주공장 가동을 통해 50명의 신규 고용도 창출할 계획이다.

신설 공장에서는 제네시스 등 신규 차종에 적용되는 시트 프레임 부품을 생산한다. 완성차 업체의 신규 차종 양산과 생산물량 확대에 대응하기 위한 생산거점으로 활용될 전망이다.

대일공업은 1987년 설립된 자동차부품 전문기업으로 충남 천안에 본사를 두고 울산공장을 운영하고 있다. 현대·기아차 주요 차종에 사용되는 자동차 시트 프레임을 생산하고 있으며, 이번 경주 투자를 통해 국내 생산 기반을 추가로 확보하게 된다.

회사는 경주가 남부권 주요 생산거점과 가까운 입지라는 점에 주목했다. 경주에 신규 생산시설을 구축하면 부품 운송거리와 납품 소요시간을 줄이는 동시에 공급망 안정성을 높일 수 있다는 판단이다.

투자가 이뤄지는 명계3일반산업단지는 자동차 및 트레일러 제조업을 중심으로 조성된 산업단지다. 최근 산업단지계획 변경을 통해 자동차 제조업과 함께 창고·운송 관련 서비스업 기능도 확대됐다.

경주시는 대일공업의 투자계획이 원활하게 추진될 수 있도록 관련 인허가 절차를 신속하게 지원하고 행정·재정적 지원 방안을 마련할 예정이다.

문상인 대일공업 대표이사는 “경주공장 신설을 통해 생산능력을 확대하고 안정적인 공급체계를 구축할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”며 “고객사의 다양한 요구에 신속하게 대응하면서 미래차 시장에서 경쟁력을 높여가겠다”고 말했다.

주낙영 경주시장은 “해외 생산시설을 국내로 이전하면서 경주를 새로운 생산거점으로 선택한 것은 지역 자동차부품 산업의 기반과 미래차 산업의 성장 가능성을 높게 평가한 결과”라며 “투자가 계획대로 진행되고 기업이 지역에 안정적으로 정착할 수 있도록 적극적인 행정 지원을 이어가겠다”고 밝혔다.
